The Winter Project is a true story documentary about backcountry snowmachining in Alaska. The story will stick to the roots of its origin as it will be as rigid as the backcountry it is being filmed in - featuring world class athletes, world class riding locations, created by a team of award winning filmmakers. Winter Project will not only capture backcountry snowmachining, it will also pay special tribute to the Alaskan filmmakers who influenced the early days of this sport. This portion of the film will be told by featuring the pioneers from High Life Films (Turnagain Hard Core series) and Frontier Films (2 Stroke Cold Smoke series).

Our goal for the film isn't to just tell the story, it is to tell the legend of Alaska backcountry snowmachining. We've seen a large portion of the existing snowmachine films and although they are adventurous and exciting, no one has quite captured the actual people behind the huge jumps, gnarly drops, and x-game medals.

Additional information on the athletes, film, and filmmakers:

Our goal is to raise $140,000. We've done a lot of math to make sure we are asking for the right amount. This balancing act is similar to that of blue bird day after a massive storm when we want nothing more than to shred all that new powder, but we have to calculate the avalanche danger and make the educated decision to go or not. In this case the last thing we want to do is make the crowd-funding mistake of asking for too little or asking too much and not reaching our mark. Thus, we are seeking what is required to turn this vision into a reality. The $140,000 will pay for:

  • Heli Time ( to include Cineflex + Quad + Film Crew Heli )
  • Production ( to include Equipment and Music )
  • Expenses ( to include Talent and Travel )
  • Operations ( to include Permitting and Accounting )
  • Reward Fulfillment
  • Payment Fees ( to include Amazon and Kickstarter Fees )
  • Top Ramen ( fund for Hybrid Color and Crew )

The really cool part of backing a project on kickstarter - you aren't just giving away money is you'll actually be receiving something! Whether you are after a DVD, t-shirt, or your own backcountry experience - we have something for you. After our project is successfully funded, we will send out a questionnaire to see what size or which poster (see options below) you want on your order.

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter

To successfully complete this film we will have several challenges & risks to overcome. The first and foremost is funding it - which is where you come in! After this project is funded we will have the unpredictable weather factor. Luckily for us we have been mitigating this factor for years and we will leverage technology and our gear to battle this one. Another major risk will be avalanches and the normal everyday backcountry hazards. We will be working closely with our friends at Chugach National Forrest Avalanche Information Center, the training we have received, and our gear to mitigate a very large portion of this risk. Putting all of these pieces together (including your support) is the only way we can successfully complete this project.

Sharing via social media

To piggy back on that last comment about the backers for $100 - I just want everyone to know that any amount is greatly appreciated in fact, if you can't support financially sharing our project on social media is super helpful too - by all means we would greatly appreciate that!
