What belt to run on a M1000 turbo, 046 or 060?

Bottom line on the turbo 2 stroke M series is to have multiple belts on hand and change them out before they become an issue. And do you remember that a few short years ago SLP and others were making a lot of different supports for the Edge chassis sleds that had beefy motors (such as the 910) to keep Motor and clutch torque to a minimum?

My 07 M1000 was a very torquey monster and used up both belt models before their time. We narrowed it down to the fact we had as close to perfect alignment as possible while COOL AND SITTING IN THE SHOP and then bad alignment in "on again, off again" WOT situations. I wish that could be remedied easier while keeping stock motor mounts. Anyone tackle this yet?

We run 060's only. You need to keep the engine from moving. 2009 motor mount plate works. You also need to run 4 post clutch with biilet spider, better belt pinch!! Our sled is a m1200 running 13 to 18 lbs.

What Soap?

When everyone says soapy water what type of soap? I believe you mean dish soap, but which one's are okay and which are bad? I'm sure it wouldn't be the best idea to use the hand conditioner additive style dish soaps as it could be bad for the belt could it not? The only time I did the belt wash I used laundry detergent and a scotch brite pad and it seemed to work. Tried the washing machine we use for our coveralls at work and it did seem to be a tad abrasive(no real damage) to the cogs from the agitator rubbing on the cogs. I will have to try the dishwasher when the woman is gone to work! :D

They may cut back the amount of belts you use by running stiffer mounts. But as in my experience with harder durometer mounts in my ProXR800, if you have a clutching issue, all the bracing in the world won't prevent the belt from tearing to pieces in the end. I ended up having to go with Brad Wursten's (1200PSI) one piece motor mount at the same time as going back to stock clutching. Honestly, as much as I'd like to say it was the motor plate, it was most definitely that I was running too shallow a helix on SLP's recommendation on that sled. The belts were perfect but torn in one spot like you had put it between two trucks doing a tug 'o war. Now with the stock clutching, aggressive stock gearing and NO WMS torque arm my belts have been doing great with belt heat in the deep pow only on a 136X1.25" track. Before if the WMS torque arm broke the heim my belt was toast the next WOT pull. Not anymore, just have to adjust gearing to reduce my clutch heat.

So in other words if something is binding/slipping or out of alignment on the clutches, the stiffer mounts will help, but not allieviate the problem as I have found. Granted I must say that even with clutch issues, until my heim broke, I have never felt cooler clutches with the torque and push stop arms on my ProXR. So if the belts going is totally heat related I think that M7 motor brace would be the ticket more than the motor mounts. You normally only go to the stiffer motor mounts when you keep tearing the stock one's like I was doing on my ProXR. That's where the motor plate helped with the motor twisting and tearing mounts bad.

Great post, as I'm sure we are narrowing down more and more some of the M1000's belt problems many are having. Just wish they all came as mine did. As mentioned, running the 046 and never had a sled so good on belts as this one for the type I riding and torture it receives! Averaging an easy 500-750 miles on my 046 belts even with the odd abuse session of -40 startups and moves in the trailer smoking the belt a bit here and there due to the cold drivetrain/track. :beer;

Have you found this to be the cure for sure now? i've ordered one of torque stops but haven't put it on yet. Still need to get something figured out for sure.

It has worked for me, along with product testers clutch setup. I get the same life out of the 046 as the 060, and they are half the price.

Where arre you guys ordering the torque stops from? Is there a chance that the factory has been putting motor mounts with different durometers on the M1000s if so could that be why there are some sleds with and without belt issues.

I ride with many m1000 mod sleds and have one of my own, and so far the 46 is the belt that is blowing to tiny little pieces and wedging cords all over in the clutches, pain in the as$, also has a vibration feeling. I've got twice the miles out of the 60 and then pulled cords, and it is a lot smother and pulls harder but haven't blown one yet, the two belt have very different characteristics and require different clutching to be ran properly. My .02

Sorry to be a bother but does anyone have the part number for the torque bracket? I can't seem to find it on the parts fiche.
