Warped Head question

I recently burnt down the mag cylinder/piston on my '01 700. After checking the head with a straight edge I found it to be warped about .005". Is it possible to use this head without machining? If I do machine it how can I avoid having detonation issues? Run higher octane? Change my timing? Most of you will probably tell me to buy a use-able head, but I've looked and can't find any right now. Thanks

I have milled them down by taping sand paper to a flat plate of 1" think milled alumimum and just kept making figure eights with the head untill it was flat. .005 is not much. Maybe run primium instead of regular, should only be a couple of octain points difference in the head.

warped

Polaris B.B. heads are bowed in the center from the factory.

you can NOT decked them in a unloaded mannor, the squish clearnace will be destroyed.

you will end up with tight clearance on the outside in relation to the inside edge.

the head needs to be pulled down on a milling table.

So does this mean the .005" clearance I'm measuring across the middle of the head normal? The spark plug in that hole is hard to turn in and out now which kinda worries me...
Thanks all
