650 to 9R

I have a low milage 2024 650, 130 miles, runs fine. I ride a boost and love it, but wouldn't mind a 9r to try. 650 to 9r. Has anyone done this? A few questions to see if someone knows.

Throttle body - 650 has a different part number, but similar description.

Asm-Throttle Body,50mm,650 Part 1208674
vs
ASM-THROTTLE BODY,50MM,900, Part 1208809

Do you think the 650 one will work? $550 part. Interestingly the 850 has a different part number and I don't hear of anyone changing that out. 850 part number
Asm-Throttle Body,50mm Part 1208673

Next question. Fuel pump or fuel regulator. Once again to save money, I'd rather replace my existing one if needed with an aftermarket one.
650 K-FUEL PUMP 650 RMK INCLUDES FUEL PUMP, FILTER, PFA GASKET,3,11, Part 2211995

900r K-FUEL PUMP 850/900 RMK INCLUDES FUEL PUMP, FILTER, PFA GASKET, Part 2211994

The 850 one is the same as the 9r. I have heard I just need to change fuel regulator? Not sure what part that is.

Pipe and y pipe - planning on picking up a used one. I think around $600

Tune - any recommendations planning $300

Cylinders - polaris oem with gaskets -$1470 Looks to be one assembly is both cylinders?

Head - OEM $370

pistons rings etc - polaris oem - $720 for 2

valves - $290 for 2

Carls, burandts, and indy specialty sale a 9r kit. It looks less expensive to purchase new from polaris. Am I missing something?

Clutch kit - since I have a p-85, planning to talk to TRS if he has one. Any other recommendations? $465

I think the injectors and everything else is the same.

If throttle body and regulator work, Cost is about $4,215 and I think I'll do it. Please let me know if you have done this or any thoughts or things I am missing.

To clarify, you are planning to do a new top on on the 650 crankcase and replace with factory 9R parts plus all the affecting hardware?

Yes, my understanding is that it should be the same as the 9r, crank body etc, except the clutch is p-85 which some like better. Wondering about those parts I questioned and any other items I may be missing.

You really should take a close look at the Polaris parts diagrams.
The cylinder is a monoblock, and the head is a siamesed head design.

The fuel regulator is part of the PFA fuel pump, and fuel float assembly. It is NOT available separately from Polaris.

The 650 engine uses 45 psi fuel system, the 850, 850 Boost and 9R use a 60 psi fuel system.

You should also plan to change the final drive ratio, but you didn't state which model sled you have, or which track.

ExcursionPSD. Thank you for fuel pressure at rail. Any idea for a less expensive option than the $700 Polaris complete new system? I thought I saw a pump from NAPA people were running?

I have a 2024 rmk pro 155 with 2.75” track.

This is new territory for me. I have only replaced pistons and cylinders before. Low snow year thought it might be fun to do a project.

Maybe unpopular, but for $4200 (plus your time) you could likely sell your 650 and buy a low miles 9R.
Might be the better option.

Currently the price difference is about $6500. But with a low snow year better deals may be coming.

I am kinda excited to wrench, but also realistic that 10 hours into it I likely will regret starting. :)

Found a thread for a quantum fuel pump and regulator. IMG_0166.png

If you want a project, send it.

But you have a valuable sled in the 650 (not that many are produced) that will meet someone's needs and likely sell quickly.

There are hundreds of 9Rs with low miles and falling prices rotting right now across our region, hence my suggestion. I'd bet the equivalent sled trading price difference may be <$4200.

I would also vote for selling the 650 and just buying a 9R. I picked up a new 9R off of someone in May that never rode it. 155 slash, 3.25 track, 7s screen, even had a wrap that I will keep for a while as I don't mind it for 16K, and I'm sure you could find the same or better deal now and for sure next spring. But if you are looking for a project and enjoy spending the time might be a fun project but I would be willing to bet whatever you think you will have into it add 20-25 percent to cost and time you are estimating, as projects like that always seem to go that way, for me anyways.

I’m all for “fun” projects but this one sounds like a headache that will only cost more than a lightly used 9R (+time) and have significantly reduced resale.
I wouldn’t touch a cobbled together engine without a huge discount.

That is a great deal! I am not finding anything close to that now.

Still no answer on throttle body.

Cost is up there a bit more
$3400 - 9r kit w slp heads
$899 slp pipe once out
$94 fuel pump and regulator qauntum
$450 - tune. ECM is the same, but needs a 9r tune.
$475 clutch kit

should be a great running 9r, but up to $5,100.

Had the 650 out this weekend, runs great. Not quite up to the 850, but can get sameplaces with a little track poaching. Boost still wins for power!

If you go about the conversion I’d buy your cylinder
Go all out and buy Indy specialty head or SLP they are worth the extra flow, I had zero DET issues after installing Indy head on my 850

Does your 650 have the QD2 gearing? If not gear it down with a Kurt’s kit or a used QD2. I put a Kurt’s kit on a 2018 Axys 600 and it was night and day difference. Previous owner upgraded the track to a series 6 so that thing went just about anywhere after the gear down kit. I also ride around 7-10,000 feet. If you have a good source of 91 ethanol free gas it made a big difference to run my 600 in ethanol free mode. Not sure with 650’s if it makes much difference. Maybe look into a head for it as I think the compression might be low on 650’s from the factory.

In regards to injectors take a look at upshift304 injector relocation kit. I am sure he could also provide new injectors or point you in the right direction. He also includes a new tune due to the injector relocation.

Update. Everyone I talked to told me not worth it. If 9r is your goal, sell 650 and buy a 9r. I sold the 650. The 650 was a great running sled. Probably should have kept it. Still looking for the 9r
