VForce Reeds on M8

Every sled i own has VForce3 reeds. I believe they make a huge difference in throttle response, and you get some bottom end power.

I've heard a lot of good things about Boyson reeds as well. Think that's what Im going to put in this summer.

I am also considering the VForce Delta 3 Reeds for my 07 M8.

They claim 4-5 hp and to increase RPM, among other engine wearing benefits.

"Whetther you're looking for more horsepower, additional RPM's higher efficiency, longer reed petal life or an ultra light replacement for your heavy conventional stock cages."

Does anyone have performance info and how many hours to install?

Much appreciated!

it does not take long at all to install reeds. i can put them in my 900`s in under 30 minutes. It took a little longer on the M1000. I would say about an hour on the m-series sleds.

don't waste your money, will be the biggest disappointing $300 you'll ever spend. buy the boyseen reeds. cost about $50 and are every bit if not better than the v-force. you may be surprised at how little if no difference you will feel...

Take the 300 or so dollars that they cost and put it toward a fuel control box. A much bigger bang for the money reeds may help a touch on throttle response but that is were it stops.:beer;

They work well with a package. If you do airbox, pipe, and V-force it works best. If you install them only, you will see quicker throttle response but seat of pants dyno will leave you wondering. I think the 4-5hp claim is for the best case scenario. The m-series should see 2-3 hp. The thing is they process the intake change more efficient. Is it worth it. That is up to you. Do I have them myself in my M8. Yes.

when you read the incremental engine improvment dyno test, if make you wonder how any of the after market reed companies are still in bussiness.

20 years ago a set of reeds in your old Yamaha Phazer made a seat of the pants difference........cats didn'nt have reeds for another 10 years.

the last generation of laydown Suzuki engines have HUGE REED SURFACE compared to former cat motors. For sure more reed surface than 700's could use, cause they show no improvments on these motors. So stock 800, that makes no more top hp than a 700, Sandman is right on, no felt improvment in HP, YOU CAN INSTALL STIFFER AND LOOSER reeds to change the low and mid power characteristics, and that could iron out some bad jetting, but you won't be throwing in any bigger weights to handle new found hp. Maybe with a turbo?

This SNOWEST forum has had more tails of tears on broken aftermarket plastic multi reed setups than about any other problem.

If you are looking to improve the hp of your M800, researching the advertising pages of the aftermarket trinket companies is not the place to go.

I understand what you are saying about how older sleds made more hp with better reed assemblies. But, if V-Force makes no power why is it that at least 2 of the OR's race motors come with them installed?

if you only do reeds you won`t notice anything. you have to do a package of mods. Intake, Can, y-pipe, pipe. Then you will feel the difference. i would never ride a sled with out them. There is a reason why all the race guys use them. Snd they save some weight.

v-force is junk, thats what i have in my m7 an dim looking into seeing if boyesen makes reeds for the cats, in all my dirt bikes ive had both and my ktm's i buy each year come stock with v-force reeds an di replace them with boyesen and its a considerable amount if difference, i mind alot of the v-force pedals like to crack off at the corners to.

PACKAGE,PACKAGE,PACKAGE, the three keys. The reeds are part of the whole PACKAGE. If you want to do one single mod get a control box. And then start adding on.

I had reeds on a 600 EFI with twin pipes, clutching, chip, etc..... Thought changing reeds was a great idea, but developed a slight bog and felt I actually lost some power. Broke a reed petal on the trails and had to limp it home. Changed out to stock and left them there until I sold it a few years later. At the time I was working at a dealership, I called boysen and told them what happened, they paid for the reeds and the mechanic to install new reeds. Great customer service from Boysen, these were there older reeds for 600 EFI zr's. I hear better things from their RAD valve setups.

Spoke with the guys who sell Reeds and they're saying buy new heads for greater return---performance!

The after-market bull-**** runs deep. They like our $$$.

When the sales people say Reeds make no noticeable difference in performance on an M8 I don't want them.

The bull****ters say up to a 10 HP gain!

When are we going to hold them accountable?

The other big lie I've experienced was HMK told me their boots were water-proof.

For all of the messing around with a box , for pipes ,reeds ,porting ,head, ect.,ect. i wonder if any of it is worth it . I was faced with the same problem about a month ago . I went with a big power increase , i am spending all off my money on Boost .

It might be a bit more cash but , i dont ever remember seeing a big nasty big bore doing this.

I will let you know if i regret the more expensive route .:beer;

Another vote for don't waste your money. There is no real gain over the stockers. Control your fuel with a box!

Phat-Cat, 10hp on reeds? Where did you find this? HMK's are waterproof? Again, where did you find this? Hmm, don't add your .02 when it is only worth .01.

Facts are facts "bigred118" despite your cheeky comment.

HMK staff emailed me that their boots are waterproof however their boots get extremely wet when riding in powder.

SLP states on their website:

"Moto Tassinari’s V-Force 3 reed valve system features a patent pending reed tip shape that accelerates the air mixture over the reed tips for even more airflow and horsepower. Applying this technology to their already incredibly successful double vblock reed cage design which doubles the reed tip surface area allowing more airflow with less reed petal movement, the V-Force 3 increases efficiency throughout the entire powerband. This results in explosive acceleration, sharper throttle response, improved fuel economy and significant horsepower gains.

*Highly recommended for use on modified 800/900 twins the stock reed becomes the horsepower restrictor and by merely adding V-Force 3 you can realize up to an additional 10 horsepower."

In my opinion us sledders are being fed a lot of BS by some of the manufacturers and after-market suppliers. They need to be called on their BS to protect the innocent.

No BS phat-cat!
