swapping an HO motor into a 2009-2007 chassis

Has anyone swapped a 2010-2013 motor into an older non HO chassis? I know the motor will drop right in, but what about the ECU, stator ect.
I'm trying decide what to do for next year already, Love the M series but my 07 motor has 5200 boosted km on it, and the rest of the chassis has all been updated, 09 tunnel, camo track kmod rear zbros front, 2010 DD... just wondering how hard it would be to drop an HO motor in

Man, my chassis is always done before the motor!

Stator is different, that I know for sure, but not sure what would be needed to adapt from one to the other. I'd think it would be easiest to get an ECU & CCU so it all matches up & reverse works.

What makes you feel you need to swap motors anyhow? I see so many out there now with way more miles than that boosted.

ECU, and the wiring harness is different. The stator is the same.

The 07 and 08 models have the CCU, which the 2009 and newer just have the regulator. So you would need one of those.

I have always kept everything tip top with the chassis, and motor for that matter as well. Is the HO motor not that much better ? maybe I should just go through the whole thing with a fine tooth comb and ride her till she breaks in half...

When I was looking at one for the 09, it had a different part number than the older sled, is that one of those deals where the number is different but in reality they're the same thing? Maybe they used a different colored wire??? :D

The 3007-545 on the 07 is replaced by the 3007-711 thats used in the 09 and up.

A good way to find out what part fits what models is go to brownsleisureworld.com and when you look at a parts breakdown click "where used" It will list every model the part will fit on, pretty interesting to see how many "old" parts somehow find their way back into newer sleds.

If you're running boost, I'd just run it till it's done... but from what I see more & more, that's a long ways off.

I can't say my 11 on boost is any different from our 09 on boost.

that's good to hear you probably saved me a bunch of money lol. I might just look at doin a few upgrades that will add some years then, as well as having a good look at my primary (spider, ect is still original) just different weights and spring

Id get it ported i think thats the biggest down fall to the pre ho motor. But not sure if it helps with boost.

Maybe think about adding Kelsey's head with a good comp for boost, and the turbo pipe?

Never hurts to have a little more power...:face-icon-small-hap

You would need to add a new primary clutch to the list for the 800HO motor swap.

I recently swapped a 2011 HO motor into my 07 M8, and that's not completely true. HO motor has different size and threads in the crankshaft end so you need a new clutch bolt. The new bolt has a larger head so you need to grind about 1mm of the diameter.

I reused my 07 wiring harness and electronics.

So no engine reverse.( did 07 have knock sencer ?) But ya if the stator is the same then what would stop you. Was the HO engine fat on the 07 ecu ? Does it run strong ?

I just did this in my 09 M8, got a brand new out of the sled 12' HO engine. Had to reuse my stator and ignition, and got a 11 ECU to match the engine. Runs like a top after I got the power valves adjusted. HO motor rocks!!

That's right, no engine reverse. Yeah, 07 has knock sensor. I've only had a couple of trips with the new engine due to snow conditions, and it's mostly been trail banging. But OH MY GOD what a difference! Throttle respons was so crisp and the power seemd to never stop. I'm running SLP exhaust, so it was actually a bit lean in the midrange. I have a Power Commander 5 waiting to be mounted, to solve this issue.

I think there is a different taper on the 07-09 m8 than the ho m8.

Taper is the same on both engines.

Hi, I saw you posted on an 800ho cat motor swap way back in 2012. We have an old crossfire here I’d like to do the same thing with and just wondering how it worked out running the original 07 electronics and if it was original throttle body as well? It would be a cheap fix for us on an old sled as we have an engine. If you don’t mind getting back to me that would be greatly appreciated. sunnyglenacres@sasktel.net or 1-306-537-3780
Thanks!
