Spare Tire replacement interval

My 2007 enclosed got new shoes 2 years ago and the spare tire which is stored inside appeared to be in great shape. I was doing some work in the trailer yesterday and bumped the tire. The tread blocks feel extremely hard and not pliable like they were when new. How much faith would one have in using a 15 year old UV protected spare tire?

Little to none.

Just because it's out of the sun doesn't mean it's not breaking down and drying out.

It probably would make it to the next tire shop.

Is it worth the cost to replace it for peace of mind?


I've thrown away truck tires with 50% tread because they were cracking at the lug base and were 8 years old. It's the only thing keeping you on the road, so I view tires as fairly important and yet disposable.
