Sledders on Mt Stuart

I to agree with Rev and Hardass. Several years ago at Harts Pass, people were dropping into the wilderness area and all the forest service did was give some idle threats as to closing the area for the rest of the season, which they didn't. Maybe if they can't keep us out they may just decide to give us some of the wilderness to ride. As for DragoonRider, I can show you a trail into the Pasayten willderness that was built with a bulldozer in the 50's that my seven year old can ride his Kittycat in on. It puts you into some of the best riding Washington has to offer.

We all need to fight like hell to keep everything else open, I just can't really see how a mass wilderness incursion is going to help our cause.

Edit:

What are we really fighting for here in Washington? We have a ton of terrain open to us compared to other states. There's a big wide swath of rideable terrain from Gold Creek to the Columbia River. There are a few accessible drainages in the Alpine Lakes that we are asked to stay out of. There hasn't been a day this entire year when I haven't been able to find fresh tracks in legal terrain. What exactly is our argument here? Wild Sky sucks, but we didn't really lose motorized terrain. The North Cascades have a ton of closed terrain, but it was made a park in 1906.

Keeping our terrain open is a different story. We need to stick together and fight for it (and support groups like SAWS). I'm of the opinion that we would be better off doing it in a way that gives a positive impression to non-snowmobilers. Just my opinion, though.

I hope you did'nt get me wrong, I'm with you but if they take us down I'm not about to stop riding where I have been.

Is there any other boundaries for snowmobiles other than wilderness? Is there any other better maps of these off limits areas? The only map i could find was this. http://www.parks.wa.gov/winter/boundaries.asp
I haven't ridden wilderness land, but just reading this thread made me wonder. I usually ride stampede, and figured i could ride just about anything from stampede to e-burg, to 410. Is there anything besides private property that is off limits in this area? Sorry to get a off topic. Oh, i suppose horse peak wilderness is in the stampede area, can someone reach that from stampede?

Well, before you get to E-burg, you'll be in the LT Murrary game preserve area. You can ride there, but have to stay on the "green-dot" roads, no trail riding or cross country. Everything else between I-90 and 410 is pretty much open until you get west of the Little Naches River...

What exactly are you protesting? The wilderness has been here since '76.

Sweet plan. Any laws we don't like, lets just get a bunch of us together and go break them. That'll show 'em. Big help to our cause. Good thinking......

Well said Trout!

The violators can rationalize riding in the wilderness however they like, but the net effect will be to hurt our ability to MAINTAIN the hard fought access we currently enjoy. If you really care about preserving and expanding sledders rights in WA, get involved and/or contribute to WSSA and SAWS.

heck guys lighten, up just trying to be like a tree hugger. Tell you what fight like hell but how do all the tree huggers get in the paper. They protest, so we do it at the federal building and stop traffic and get arrested HMMMM I vote for Ford man to do it.

Not cocdoning breaking the law

I'm not in any way saying go break the law and ride in closed areas.i'm just saying we have already lost a lot and are going to lose more. we have areas that are now closed the green team did a fly over to see if any one had been sledding in there, there were no tracks but in the adjacent area that is open there were tracks galore. the green team sent letters to the fs that they do not want sledders there either as it disturbs the closed area. abuffer zone of sorts, so it; doesnt end. i hope there is a way to stop this land grab i just do;nt see how. i have been involved for over 5 years so i kind of know whats going on. motorized recreation is under attack and it;s starting with sledding as soon as thats uder control whats next quads?

They killed quads a long time ago in Washington, you can't even ride on a logging or dirt raod here in most areas. I see you're from Montana, we have a bunch of freaks running our state.

Dear kodero I disagree with self police.Let the lawmen do there job and tickets will fly.I hunt with a local kitcom lawman and they like a good chase.Geeeezuuus snow west has no sense of humor:devil::beer;:beer;

Dear eric small bor the forest service ***ged up our elk unit with quads, you you know nothing or you dont hunt:mad:

I have to agree with sidehil. Let the tickets fly and if said sledder thinks he has a good reason to justify being in a closed area I am sure the judge will be all ears!

All I was saying is you cant ride on the ROADS in MOST areas. I dont know where you hunt and I see you say you hunt with a "Kitcom" cop (never heard of (Kitcom) in the 39 years I've lived in WA) as you stated in another post. Gee I sure love cops...

As far as hunting goes, lets see,, 7 days in Winthrop for no deer season, 7 days in the LT Murry (where quads are legal and have had no effect because there are no elk) for the lame arse "spot the hunter" Elk season. I'm done with that!! 4 days in Spokane for the late buck season, got a 3 by 5. 3 days of duck hunting, an all time low for me. No, ask my wife, I don't hunt at all, or ride, or golf, or climb...

Kitcom is the name of the Kittitas County Dispatch Center....They dispatch for Kittitas Co., E-burg, Kittitas, Cle Elum S. Cle Elum, & Rosyln....They are just a Dispatch Center!

we all support saws, just too bad we do not have an area that we can sue to get open and have the money for lawyers just to start pushing back so they are on the defensive instead of us.

Good to hear. I was surprised when I looked at SAWS website and there are only 9 individuals who have contributed $50 or more. Just being a 'member' isn't enough. We all dump more than $50 in gas on every trip. After seeing that, I got off my a$$ and coughed up some more dough.

You're right that we don't have a whole lot to fight here. We've really got it pretty good in WA. Sounds like Idaho, Montana, Colorado, etc. need all the help they can get, though.
