Secondary Clutching ZR600

I posted this thread in the 1M section but might be better suited here with guys like me making their ZR600's into long track mountain sleds.

My sled:
2000 sno pro 600 with 711 black magic kit. Primary (53g weights + orange/white spring), secondary (57-62 Helix w/ green spring - center hole)

Here are the symptoms I'm experiencing:

  1. belt is slipping bad on the primary (like when loading onto a sled deck) it leaves rubber residue on the primary
  2. belt was super easy to remove by simply pushing down in the secondary to create slack.
  3. sled feels like it takes off in high gear and won't move (especially on incline) belt is found deeper down in secondary when inspected.
  4. Peak rpm s/b 8200. I'm only getting 7500 climbing, can reach 8000 on trail.
Noticeable on inspection
  1. roller have uneven wear on them
  2. rollers feels loose (wobbly?) on their shafts
  3. secondary does not seem to move (slide) on the shaft - auto clutch alignment
  4. Helix has irregular wear on one bar (a groove is present)
Questions:
  1. should I just tighten the spring to the max hole?
  2. Do the rolers need replacing (should there be NO play in them?)
  3. Do you grease the secondary shaft so it slides?
  4. Any ideas on some clutching opetions to address the symtons will be appreciated?
Thanks,
Spin

Iam running the 720 predator and running stock weights so 53grams with a yellow/white spring, and a good secondary and Iam pulling 8600rpm, but change your rollers, grease shaft, and drop a new helix, what your felling is everything not working right in your secondary, your secondary is the same as mine also, clean up the clutches where you burnt belt, I would do a once over on all of it haha I had the same problem years ago on one of my F7s cause of the secondary, give it a new primary spring, Iam going with a 440 sno pro black spring its super stiff and has about a 4400rpm launch

Thanks Firecat. Will do.
What would you recommend for the secondary spring? Just replace with a new of the same?

Not sure on the secondary as i dont know if your long track or short, but ive had lots of luck with the red and the green spring and made different back shifting in areas i was riding, but i normally stick to a all around set up as i dont make it to the mountians much(2700kms drive) but the set up iam using new i have a yellow spring in my secondary and switched the other night to a green one, 200 feet with the skis off the ground and in a strait line, so once iam done my clutching it will stay like that untill i have the motor dailed in as my mod set up mixed with many parts from different companys and brands, Iam going to run the stock can/pipe this weekend and ill let you know how it works

I replaced the rollers and the new ones have no play at all. Green spring moved to max hole and installed a 57-59 helix. She's go a 141 X 2" track and 24 + 39 gears on the small tooth drivers.

Took her for a rip in the alley and she really screams! Hard to say if she is fixed because I run out of alley so fast. But she fires out of the whole like a banshee now - no sign of the top gear lauch of old.

I can't get the skis to lift though cause my skid geometry is all messed up with the 141 conversion. Way too much weight on the skis.
Any ideas?

release some tension on your front spring, the strap in your skid drop it about two holes that should lose up some pressure, I love the ski pressure but my sled is so dial in right now and i have the LE package so all the ajustable shocks and i cans keep my skis on the ground!! And have everything rock hard like my other race sleds and i only have a 1" x 121" track. Also did you put in a powder special drive shaft i notice you put smaller drivers, or what size drivers? Iam going to a 2"X 121" track
