Question about Mammoth Lakes Riding?

More than Likely, U bringing the sled???? Pm me closer to the date I will know where I will be , look forward to riding with ya!:beer;:beer;:D

Yep. I was thinking of flying down to see my friend but looking at the gas prices going down I started to think about making a 7 day plus snowmobile roadtrip. I haven't ridden anywhere outside of WA state before. I was thinking of being there by the 26th of Dec. and riding in Mammoth for a couple. Then heading back to WA riding in various spots on the way back. I have friends in Reno to ride with and was gonna see if anyone on Snowest would play tour guide while I'm in Oregon.

Tahoe -- Reno Riding

Uller, If you needing someone to show you are our area. Let me know always looking to ride.

Let me know when the time is a little closed what your up to.

Wow! Don thanks for all the extremely valuable info. Much appreciated.

I have a 06' M7 w/ a 162. I like it steep and deep. Trails are only for getting to the good stuff IMO.

arcticridr- I am planning on taking a road trip down there between Christmas and the New Year. Will you be in the area then?

Well you are welcome !!!

If you are coming down you must stop along the way to two of the best steep and deep places to ride.

Castle Peak

Sonora Pass

Especially if there is a fresh dumping.

Feel free to ask me any questions you have. I live in mammoth.. Tons of places to ride, those maps don't cover alot of areas, only where the trail system goes I've been trying to find a more inclusive map that just shows boundaries not trails most of people out here ride sleds in the 140's to low 150's, I don't see to many 160+ as far the snow sierra cement is what everybody calls but on a 400-600 pound sled, powder is powder..and we do get a few good "Cold storms" a year bringing in that dry snow. Buying a place is $$$, but renting isn't much different then LA or SD.

As far as places close to ml..if you get in a place on Forest Trail, or parts of Old mammoth road you can launch from your backyard. I usually go off the scenic loop, or shady rest park which is all within 5 mins from my house in the center of town.

The main places for employment are the ski area (where I work) or the hospital, there are also a ton of smaller places depending on what you do.

I almost took a job in Mammoth back in 2005. It was going to be at the Mammoth Mountain Lodge. They had an opening for a programmer. I interviewed with them in July, but it took until mid-October before they made me an offer. By then, all the affordable housing was gone. They offered to put me up in their own housing, but only if I had TWO other roommates. Ugh... Pass. So I had to turn 'em down.

Woudla been a neat area to explore... maybe I'll get down there sometime to do so.

HA I took your job. :) That's funny. I was doing freelance for them all summer and I got the job in nov-dec. :)

Really!? Wow that's funny! Good for you!

I have no real regrets over not taking the job... Ken, my boss-to-be (I think that was his name), was fairly cool, but the rest of the office was FULL of freaking liberals. Lots of anti-Bush, pro-greenie ****. It was a major turnoff.

Come to think of it... it wasn't 2005... it was 2004... because it was before the last election (Bush vs Kerry)... I remember seeing Kerry stickers there.

So are you a ColdFusion guy too?

HA! Ken was a awesome! He left a couple years back now. That's hilarious! Ya, you're going to get a lot of hippy liberal types working/living in Mammoth/Eastern Sierras just how it goes, although if you were applying for a job in some of the other departments it's a complete 180. Heh, you can't really run/work at a ski resort and do snow mobile tours on national forest land if your 100% Greenie... The job that was up for grabs 04 though went to my buddy Jim, I was still working in town and didn't get hired on into 05 I believe.

I wasn't CF guy until I started working here, I was a PHP guy but I haven't done much PHP in the last 3 years or so. Can't say I'm huge fan of CF but it's quick to pick up and easy to use.

Too cool!!! I'll have to bring some buds down there sometime if you wouldn't mind showing us around. :)

I've been a CF'er for going on thirteen years... (started in '96). I'm in San Jose now (wife/daughter are in Reno -- I live part-time in my RV)... spent a few months at eBay, then jumped ship to another well-known company that uses a LOT of CF... but being a contractor, I don't like to publicize who. eBay was great too, but they don't do much CF.

Nice! There is some good stuff about CF, although it drives me nuts sometimes.. I've spent the last week fighting with Varity search issues on our CF clusters, it keeps freaking out on me and crashing varity on the multiple instance servers while the single instance box I have has no issues. I know MySpace did a lot of CF for a while but they went away from it I believe. I've always been nervous about dedicating myself to CF wasn't sure what the job market is like for CF programmers if for any reason I decided to move on (which is very unlikely)

As far as riding though, I'd be happy to show you guys around. Once the season starts I try to get out 4-5 days a week. I'll send you a pm w/my email address so you can contact me directly.
