If you were a trooper to get out there today, it paid off. Best snow of the year was today.

For the first time I can remember, we unloaded at the highway as Gold Lakes road was closed. No plowing even to the Frazier Falls turnout, nada, zilch.

It snowed on us most of the day, sun teezed us a little but was MIA. DEEP out there, storms are adding up! The 9R continues to impress this Cat guy, the boards and tunnel were made for days like today. Hope you guys get out there soon as the snow is what we dream about!

I was supposed to go out today but a friend who I had planned to go with decided it was too much work to get up early and deal with tire chains. 'Course if he'd fix his truck, tire chains wouldn't be an issue, but that's another topic.

Nothing like missing the best ride day(s) of an otherwise crappy season.

I WILL NOT deal with tire chains, we all CALTRANS is quick to put them up. Two important things when riding in storms and/or road restrictions-

1. Get a sled deck. The easiest solution to all of this is stop towing a trailer.

2. Avoid I-80 corridor and 88. They are constantly closed or have chain controls. Start heading north and highway 70 to Yuba or Gold or even down to LTS. Roads are plowed and rarely if ever see any controls. Work around it.

I won't use them either if I can avoid it. Snow Socks are an option if necessary, though their durability is unproven. The person in question has a flatbed on his truck but hasn't taken the time to get the thing fully prepared because it's too easy to just go skiing instead of snowmobiling.

Crappy season? This season has been amazing. I guess it depends on where you're located. I've 20+ deeeeep powder days so far on the West Coas!

Where do you ride on the west coast? Alaska? Last I checked the Sierra-Nevadas weren't on or anywhere near the coast.

Went back out today, three days after the storm. Road is still not plowed but it was so nice to see Gold filled in everywhere. As expected, snow is already starting to set up, my honey hole above Mud was still holding powder though! First ones up into Deer Lake after the storm. All in all, it was a great day to skip work!

It was an awesome ride for a non-powder day. I'm beat so I'll organize photos and video tomorrow.

I hope you're pretending to be an inbred hillbilly from susanville because if you don't know what a maritime snow pack is then you should probably take an avy 1 course. Cause you thinking that the Sierra Nevada's aren't close to the coast is a huge red flag. Lol. I have a cabin at bucks but that's not my normal stomping grounds...

All I was saying is that it's been a good season so far in California. Those are the current conditions in my local area.

Got out to Yuba Pass yday. Good snow on north facing slopes, getting pretty crusty otherwise. Lots of great boondocking. Chili cook-off had the place packed, got back far too late to sample any though.

Rode Blue Lakes yday. That place right now has garbage conditions. All wind scoured. Hard to believe its only been two weeks since our big dump and we're already at classic Sierra cement there. Snow and coverage is much better up north at Gold and Yuba.

Raymond - Had a good Gold Lake scoot on Thursday. Did the Round, Mud, Spencer's, Hawley, Snake and back to Round loop. It's all hero snow now. Can go wherever you want depending on how big your Cajones are. Super strong winds made it touchy on the ridgetops. The one above Mud was nasty. Felt like the sled was moving sideways. Didn't hang around up there. The road was plowed to the trailhead and we didn't see or hear anyone else up there. Had the whole place to ourselves. Couple of pics. Looking down towards Upper Spencer Lk. and the Hawley Lk. cabin(lunch stop).
