nylon washers for clutch weight pin ends?

I read about this somewhere a long while back, and cant seem to find it again. Has anyone here swapped out the O rings on the clutch weight bolts for something else? Any improvement with it being able to swing without resistance/binding, etc? Mine spit a couple o rings out of it last year, and they arent looking that great this season either. What are you using, and where did you get em. Thanks
Brian

The reason for the resistance is to stop wear on the clutch housing from vibration, and will not decrease performance. I would buy some new orings and carry on. my 2 cents....

Interesting, never thought of that... Makes sense, though having the weights not swing free isnt causing any loss in efficiency?

A tip from Geo last year was to sand or flat spot one side of the O ring to let them swing free'r. I would worry more of the spring binding in the spider more.

Don.

O-ring replace............

I replaced my o-rings with some washers that I made. It worked awesome, never had to mess with it again. Pm snow4fun on here, he found some from a supplier somewhere? I am pretty sure his worked fine also. The O-rings are a pain in the A, they always fly out. Good luck-00's

I had the same problem on 05 kk 900. Changed the 0-rings to multiple nylon washers that I got at ACE hardware store. I have been running this setup for 2 years with no problems. I think I used 2 washers on one side and three on the other, but use what works without binding. It may not be that big of a difference but every little bit helps right?

coxy...take your clutch pins out and put the threaded end inside a cordless drill (don't crank the chuck down just snug it up) get some 320 sand paper and polish the pin up. u can get crazy and go all the way up to 2000 grit but i stoped at 1500... what this does is free up the pin inside of the bushing in your clutch.. the reinstall with the stock o-rings and a stainless nylock nut
i also use red locktite with this setup... just snug up the lock nut to the o-ring ....u should be able to breath on the weights and have them move...

i have about 4 plus sesons on this setup and its the first thing i do to any of my bros sleds...;)

Ill try that out this service time. Ive lost a couple o rings before, even had 2 set screws back out, even being loctited in the first time around. Not really looking for gains persay, if there is some to gain, ill take it of course, just seems hokey squashing the orings down and hoping the nut doesnt back off. Ill pick up some nylocks and try again. You guys getting replacement Orings from the dealer, or just sourcing them through an autoparts place (at least its not a week wait (or more)

Don't squish the o-rings. Put blue loctite on the threads and tighten until you make contact with the o-ring. Some idiot at cat designed the bolt with too short of a collar and when you tighten to the collar it pushes the o-rings out. All you want to do is take the side play out. If you do go the washer route, just take a o-ring to the hardware store and go thought there nylon washer assortment untill you find the right combo. I found a size that I used on a couple of clutches that I had to rub them on a piece of sandpaper a little for the perfect fit.
