MDS Weights vs. Arctic Cat Weights

Hey everyone I am curious to see experiences and opinions on MDS weights and Arctic Cat weights. I have gotten a 44/40 helix and have heard that with 68 gram weights it can really make an 09' Cat get up and go. Please let me know what you think. I ride in the 3,000-10,000ft elevation range

68 G is going to be kind of heavy at 10,000'. I suppose it depends on your size and snow condition but I have to drop down to 63G at that elevation with my 2010 800HO It has a 162 track and me and my gear will put probalby around 280 to 290 extra pounds on it.

Its rare that we get all the way up to 10,000ft. Mainly we are down around 5-8,000ft but I weight about 230-240, plus gear I might be around that 280 pounds range. So you think that 63's will be better? And what makes MDS weights so much better?

I would think 66 to 63 You have less horse than the HO and are about the same size as me.There seems to be a big change between 8,000 and 10,000". I haven't run the mds weights, keep thinking about it but $$$ and no body comes up with a solid figure on what kind of track speed I would get. I can hold around 42mph right now. I don't care about drag racing, just deep and steep snow

You biggest issue is the helix. It will work fine on trails and flat land but not in the hills you back shift will suffer.

The mds weights engage really hard if u don't change the primary spring. Polaris black and red I think. Also they keep the clutch engaged down to 3500 rpm which is real nice coming down hills. My track speed increased 3-5 mph. And a lot higher highmarks.
My buddies pro track speed was 39-41 and mine was 42-45 at 6-7, 000 ft. Now mine is 45-50.
My 09 153 (with slp) out climbs the 11 162. With me ridding both sleds so no difference in riders.

So you think that my helix isn't right? You don't think that 44/40 helix will work? I guess I have heard of guys that have ran slp pipe set up then run a 44/40 helix with 68 gram weights. What do you think?

It might work with the light weights you are running. It seams to me that at 6-9 we ran 70G weights on a 09 with a 36 helix. I do not run anything steeper than maybe a 36 on finish on an Normal aspirated motor.

i've got a set of MDS weights I used on my 2009 m8, rode with it an entire 2 days, and then ended up selling the sled! ;-( /I loved the weights and are for sale, pm if you are intrested!!!

Cats stock helix is a 44/36 isn't it? With 70g weights?

Yes, the stock helix for the 09 M8 is a 36 degree helix. That is what you want with the MDS weights. I tried a 44/36 with my MDS weights and they didn't work that well.

You should PM Speedracer ASAP and buy his MDS weights!

Ya I already PMed him but, you put a 44/36 helix and tried the MDS weights and it didn't work? What weights did you use? 68g?

MDS are adjustable in weight which makes them nice for dialing in your particular sled and elevation. Instead of swapping the factory style weights for a second set, in a few minutes you can adjust the MDS.
