M7 tracks

cutting the lugs

so if I shave about 1/4 inch off my exisiting 2 1/4 attack 141 track, will it be better on the hard pack. I always hear about guys doing taking off 1/4 inch and wanted to see some opinions. What position would you put it in after shaving the lugs down? HC or Powder?

Fip It, and ride it!

A-20 in HC is awesome in my book! After you ride it for awhile it gets even better. The roostertail goes way down, the paddles straighten out, then you have the best track out there. I have seen two identical M-7's one camo and one A-20, the camo overheated in the spring. The A-20 never did? I think the attack will always throw more snow than the camo, but after the a-20 paddles straighten out, the roost does go down some. Anyways, I don't want somone right on my tail, just like I don't want to follow somone that close. If I am following close, I want to get by, and am just waiting for a clean spot to pass. Get an A-20, run it in HC, and don't look back! -00's

my buddy had the identical m7 as mine just his had an a20 and i watched him slide down a fairly hard pack hill backwards behind me because of that track, and no it wasnt rider error after that happined i swung leg over the sled thinking he was just a sissy to scared to hop on the throttle and i ended up doing the same thing, sled just spun right out and wouldnt hook up for the life of it, he had the track cut down 1/4" to, i am not sure what position it was in tho or if it would of performed better if it was in the other position, just my 2 cents.

I am getting ready to buy an '05 with the 153 A-20. I put about 300 miles on this sled last winter and in hillclimb position this thing rules. It was mostly spring conditions and on occasion, coming down from a big climb was dicey but it was also able to hi-mark bigger sleds even swapping riders.

I would be curious to see how it does in the powder in hillclimb. I don't want to mess with the track that much, and powder is my favorite riding. The track has been in HC for a while and the paddles have started to straighten themselves. Is it going to work as is, or should I plan to flip it between the two positions?

It will trench pretty bad in the powder, but if you put it in powder position, it will be awesome in the powder. A friend of mine rode with us a couple times with a M7 153 in powder and his track was in hillclimb position. It did ok, but it definitely trenched a lot more than anyone else. If you don't want to flip the track back and forth, I think the powder position is the way to go. You just have to ride a little smarter in the hard pack, or else you'll find yourself going backwards downhill.

While the great track debate rages, wife's M7 has the A20 in hillclimb, cut down 1/4". That said, it isn't that great in powder, especially when towing the kids snowcoach (not that I would expect it to jump up out of the snow with a trailer attached!). My old RMK hooks up better it seems, with or without the 'coach in tow than the M with the A20.
I'm debating getting a new track this yr for it and can't decide between a "stock" A20 or a Maverick. Seems both can be had pretty reasonably and I'm not shellin' out $6-800 for a Powerclaw or an Extreem,
Opinions on overall perf of the 2 options I'm considering??

Get the best of both worlds and order a new powerclaw. Does great on powder and hardpack without having to flip the track around for different conditions.
