High milage m8

So Im Looking at buying a 08 m8 le night fire with 4500 miles. It's very very clean one owner with about 3k in mods and it has a new clutch and the updated dd. The engine has never been into he did a compression test and both cylinders are at 130 each. so he's asking 6k I think I can get it for mid 5s. I love the sled it has everything I'm wanting but the miles bother me. So should I buy an m8 with this many miles or do I keep looking.

The miles wouldn't bother me. With the compression being that good it's still a strong motor. Plus a new top end is fairly cheap to do if ever needed. When you say it has 3k in add ons what does it have cause you can find newer ones cheaper. There is an 09 with a turbo and less mi in the swap meet section.

My advice is to not really take into account the upgrades too much. Look at the price point and the market on the sled like you would a vehicle and blue book. Personally, I wouldn't pay over like $4200 for an 08 with 4500 miles on it. Even with "upgrades" there are better sleds out there for better money. It's like fixing up an old Nova car and trying to sell it for $20,000. Ain't gonna happen because it's still a Nova.......JMO

The price is between you and the seller, I would put a fresh top end in it with that many miles. I would not be bothered by the miles, but as a preventative measure I would freshen it up.

I have 8100miles on my 09 M8 with stock engine, no rebuild. At 4500miles, this sled is new!:face-icon-small-ton LOL seriously, major issues is

-Change your DD oil every 800miles (DD oil worn very fast)(check at 4500miles, open your DD and check your bearings and gears, at 5800miles on my sled, a brass shim get out, no major issue but if you dont check frequently...$$$)
-Check and probably change your mag engine mount every 1000-1500miles (put M7 torque arm for help to prevent this issue)... on my sled, i make a add 2 custom mount + m7 torque arm
-New Secondary clutch bushing every 1500miles,.. (send it at M&M Sport Center he put a steel hub and brass bushing) on my sled i put STM 10.4 secondary clutch, all parts is serviceable
-New Primary clutch rollers every 2000 miles..(use old rebuild kit from old cat clutch) on my sled i put P-85 from FTX, all parts is serviceable from Polaris.
-Send your shock at GSR in Idaho for revalving and rebuilt. After two riding seasons, send your shock for oil change, Float oil worn very fast!

It's major wear issues i noticed on my sled and many M sleds here.

Ok so a top end isn't going to cost to much but how long will an m8 bottom end go for. If I had to go through the whole motor what would I be looking at for cost.

On forum, Freeagent have very good price on Cat parts, send a pm. But I know that engine is very very bulletproof.

I put a top end in a friends M8 at just over 5k and it looked fine, pistons/cylinders were still in excellent condition.

I dont know how most people looks at it but mods dont bring up the value in my opinion unless its something drastic like a turbo. The mods that sled has might be worth a couple hundred extra $$ on a sled purchase MAX IMO. I wouldnt go higher then $5000, also if you get the sled do the top end its easy to do and cheap preventative maintenance. Its not really the miles that make me say that because the engine is bullet proof like said by everyone else its just its a relatively stock 2008 which is why I wouldn't pay 6k for it, you should be able to find a 2010 for that price.

Bought my 2010 HCR in April for $5,500, all stock with 450 miles. The deals are out there if you search around. Right now is the prime time to sell a sled so you will likely pay more.

I have a hard time understanding how "extras" don't add value. I think if its options you would want its saving you from buying them. I only know a few cheep Azz' out there that leave everything stock and WILL NOT spend a dime on extras.
JD if the sled is priced at a fair price for what others similar are priced at in your area and it the model you want buy it. Black is the new green so I know they look sick . Not everyone can buy 10 and 11's for 55 to $6000. There is lots of M's on the market where I am but not for 5-6k

Crazy money for an 08.
Nothing done makes that sled compare to a 2010+

What kind of shape is it in though? Is it real clean, looks like a top notch sled?? If so I'd go 5kish, but it really is eay to find 2010+ sleds for that kind of money.

It's very very clean. The lowest I've found a 10 m8 in my area is 6300 most are pushing 7k. Most 08s are going for mid 5s. I'm also looking at a very well set up 09 ski doo 800 with 1k miles for 6k.

My crossfire 800 had 4,200 miles when i bought it.
I sold it to a co-worker with 7,500
He has 9,000+ on it now...he has never touched the motor.

I find with Cats, you leave em stock, they last forever...JMO...

If you aren't at the top of your price range, you can look around and probably find a new hold over "11 for around that 7k mark...

I thought country cat in sauke center, mn had 1 not too long ago

Not sure of your location so that may factor in as well
