This is a pretty sweet setup and long overdue. I suggested this about three years ago. They either had it in the works or stole my idea!

Awesome that they made it retrofittable to 2014+ trucks with mylink on the half tons and 2015+ on the HD's.

Side camera mounted to the mirror turn on automatically with your blinker (use your damn blinker!!). Any of the cameras can be turned on from the touch screen or you can show a combination of them. Backup still turns on with the reverse gear. You can have the following cameras in addition to your backup:
  • driver side mirror
  • passenger side mirror
  • camera mounted wirelessly to the back of your trailer
  • camera mounted to your third brake light to view inside bed/5th wheel

What I think is cool about the GM system is that it is retrofittable to prior year trucks. You bought a 2014 or 2015? Well you can buy the kit or have it installed without having to upgrade to the newest model year.

Where the Buffalo roam
So easy even a woman can do it !!!
Been active for years in Europe .."Advanced Driver Assistance System"... especially on Heavy Truck/Trailer rigs , and is a response to the legalization of autonomous emergency braking scheduled for 2019.

Next thing it will be the cameras fault for the accident...wonder if the ECU/BCM will record data/video????

I love the fact that it's accessible while moving. Towing a boat or flatbed with this option long distances will be indispensable....

Yesterday ALL of the major US Manufacturers signed on to AUTOMATIC BRAKING as a standard feature for all cars in the next 5 years...

Technology is coming hard and fast now.

Technology is already out there. I have several vehicles with it already. It's actually really cool. In order to get a 5-star crash rating you must have it as an option on a car now. The average 30+ year old probably doesn't need this but if it saves your 16 year old's life, its money well spent.

exactly. They are far more likely to be in an accident. Many parents put their kids in an old used car. Their insurance will be cheaper in something new. Obviously a balancing act of cost of vehicle to cost of insurance, etc.

Also for the crash avoidance systems, I know we've all looked down for a moment only to look up and see straight brake lights and traffic at a standstill.

Guess that means the new Super Duty will be $80K
Wouldn't Surprise me one bit if a FULLY DECKED out version gets close.

a 2016 F250 Diesel 4x4 Platinum base package is $66,000
Add in some of the nice options and you are at $69,588

No Doubt the 2017 will include an increase in cost across the board.
