Go for taller over wider. Wider may look better in my opinion but taller gives you more contact on the ground then wider. Plus your fuel mileage will be better with a taller narrower then a fat tire. I know this from experience. I have a 2006 2500hd duramax, i had 34.5" tall and around 10.5"-11" wide tire, and changed to a 33"x13" tire and my mileage went down substantially. I have 18" rims on my truck so i dont know if you could get the tire size i did.

I'm leaning towards dropping the rear down 2-3" and running the Goodyear DuraTrac 265/75/16-E on there. (31.7" dia)...stock size is 245/75/16 (30.5" dia)

Ran that before... no rubbing issues... looks tough.

The way I'm looking at it now... if I can't run larger tires without cranking the front end up ... then I might as well lower the rear.

My question is, If I drop the rear by 2-3"... The shock will be compressing that much from the start and also the snubbers will be that much closer to bottoming.

Are there shock-mounts or shocks and shorter snubbers available to accommodate that??

Make sure you can get the Duratracs - when I bought mine in December for my 2011 (275-70-18) they were on national backorder - they did find a set at a store about 40 miles from here and had them the next day, otherwise I may have been SOL for awhile. Popular tire right now I guess.

I would not recommend the duratrac as a dry pavement tire. The wear uneven and fast. They turn in to a noisy tire real quick. Also they feel squirmy at hiway speeds.

Next time ur at a large parking lot like walmart or lowes. Look for trucks with the duratrac tires and u will see how bad they wear.

I have to agree and disagree about the Dura trac. I absolutely love the tire . I go through some tires also. I would agree that they can wear down quick. Especially when warm outside. In winter, it is just the opposite. In winter, I have found nothing better for snow/ice and rain. I do not have the the uneven wear issue mentioned with mine. Could be the vehicle, could be sizing. For comparison, I have 325/60/20 on an 08 F250.

I've had them on a few trucks... liked them... they wear quickly on the big trucks.... but not so much on the smaller ones.

The big factor for me was to rotate with ever other oil change and make sure that the alignment was spot on.

ran 33.5" duratracs on 20" wheels on my last truck (cognito 2" leveling kit) Rotated every 2500 miles. I had 40,000 miles on them and 50% tread left. Excellent tire. Would recommend them to anybody and will be putting them on my jeep soon as the stockers are done.

Key is to rotate them often.
