Hey guys just looking for some opinions, I have a 2018 Axys sidekick, the top end was done at 1,500 miles and it runs strong, but now at 3,200 miles, I am starting to worry about the bottom end. What would you guys check or possibly do? Do I need to throw another top end in it before the season starts? Just looking for some advice from people that know more than I do.

Thank you,

Ryan

Compression check- see what spec is for your elevation. If it passes run it, if not put some pistons and rings in it.

My experience is re-piston and re-ring every 1,800 miles. I have personally not had an 800 run more than 2,000 miles in the last 10 years. You may have compression and all will look great on the skirts, but what you can't see is the loose upper ring retaining pin that is about to fall out.

On my turbo '18, I put pistons in at 3500 miles. It now has 4100 miles. You can do a leak down test, but it's challenging to do on a 2 stroke. At a minimum, do a compression check. A bearing going bad on the bottom end will often show up with uneven or low compression. Could also measure squish to see if it's even.

I caught a bad ( ready to go) wrist pin bearing-during a teardown of 2100 miles...
Ran perfectly- zero issues, but deicide after a good result from leak down test- I thought.... Meh !! - It didn't owe me a thing

Personally- 1800miles, and it's served a guy well- keep pushing it out there and it could be more expensive than you hoped for.

I waited too long and blew a piston at 4500 miles on my 2018 Assault 800. It was a costly mistake. Don't wait. 1800 miles is probably a good rule of thumb.
