I have apex with a boondocker gt2554 kit the chassis is done just about all custom & light weight drop & rolled vanamburg tunnel 174 2.5 track. Motor has Corillo rods & je pistons My question is it worth the cost to up grade to 28rs or 2871 turbo? i would also need fuel pump & regulator. was running at 15 lbs. at end of year thats about the end of efficiency of the small turbo seemed to be enough power at the time. just wondering if after rideing for a while i will be wanting more? p.s. most rideing is in Revelstoke snow can get deep thanks in advance sorry about spelling not my strong point.

If you want to run 15lbs of boost I would get a bigger turbo on there that would move more air and keep everything cooler. I had a 2860 on a bd kit and it worked great. I don't think I'd put a 2871 on because it would be a little more laggy. Just my .02.

if your only going to run around 15 pounds of boost i would go with a 2560 turbo.i went from a 2554 to a 2560 and it made a huge difference.i also have one for sale in the classified section with pictures if you want to see it. i am also located in canada also so freight would be cheaper.i went with a bigger turbo as i snow drag race my sled.let me know thanks fern.

Depending on your compression you could likely get away with the 2871. I had a built motor bd kit and it ran 17 or 18 on a 2860 no problem. I don't see upgrading the turbo and not getting the extra headroom. I will say a 2860 should do a lot better than a 25 series on 15lbs even as you are really out of the efficiency range of that turbo. What I would really recommend since you have the rest of the sled dialed is selling your bd kit for 2500-3500 and putting that towards an impulse or alpine kit. I am going from bd to impulse race kit

Is it worth going impulse?? i have an bd 2860 kit on my apex and it will climb about anything,The way i see it is if your running a 2860 on either kit your biulding boost,is it worth $7000 to have it spool up 1 second faster?Turbo-gator
If i were you I would sell your turbo and get a 2860,if not happy at 15 lbs turn it to 18 and hang on.

bd turbo

the 2860 is a ton faster than the 2554 even running like boost numbers. a touch slower out of the hole unless you clutch it to engage high, but running 15 lbs on my sled with the 28 it was faster than any of the 25s i ran with.. I think the 2554 is only good for running 10 maybe 12 then go to the 2560 15-16lbs just get a 28.
as far as being worth the money to switch to an impulse i dont think so, I have been around all kinds of kits and dont think it would be worth an extra 4000 and all the work to change. from start I would look a little harder at the other kits available now.. julio

I was just reading on the garret 2554,2560 - 2870. I have ran a few 2554's and updated to 2860 's in the past. I would personally lose that 2554 and go 2860. You have a built motor and I would take advantage of that. Plus your maxing that turbo out at 14 and causes alot of heat.Run your 15 w a g2860 and stay alot cooler, just my 2 cents. I am looking at a bd g2860 apex and was wondering what you guys think of them. I also ride revy etc, any issues, heat ,headers, cheers

Unless you have unlimited funds, then no it wont be worth it. Upgrade to the 2860 and stay with the higher compression.......the sled will rip.
