I have read the related threads on this topic for the Axys models but have not found a Matrix related thread. I'm new to new sleds, had an RMK years ago, have done lots of snowbiking, and I'm looking at a '22 or '23 Matrix with either the 165 2.75" or 163 3". First off, is there still an issue with the 3" trenching more than the 2.75" on the Matrix platform? Is there any advantage for me a newb to the modern machines with one track over the other? Thanks.

Figure out your snow conditions and use that to pick your track.

The sugar snow the 2.75 seems to do better with lift, but the 3" seems better on the heavier snow where it can't trench as bad.

They'll both work just fine for most of us. I'd pick the 2.75 so long as it has the extrovert driver's for my riding, but I wouldn't pass up a 3" if it was $500 cheaper either.

I think for our coastal riding areas the 3” is better.

The 3” typically has a higher msrp…..

Can't go wrong either way, particularly for a newbie - I'd lean toward the 2.75" as it spins more, which helps when learning to sidehill. Most people are going to consider the 2.75" the better all around track, although certain riding styles/area/snow conditions lend themselves one way or the other. Takes a somewhat seasoned rider to pick out the differences if you rode both not knowing which was which

I prefer the 3”x 3” over the 3.5”x 2.75”. I have both. The 2.75 is on a Boost and folds over to easily. We have a 3” Boost in our group that stomps the 2.75ers no matter who rides it. All snow conditions.
