just got the aluminum gear. it is considerably lighter than the steel. i will weigh them both.

on my not so accurate floor scale the aluminum gear weighs about 1 lb. the steel one is about 2.5 lbs, so 2.5x heavier

i am going to swap tomorrow.

is the general consensus to run the steel gear??

did you reinstall the steel gear?
notice any performance benefit by running the aluminum?

should i just go with the steel gear?

is the 49 tooth gear used last year steel?

talked to the cat and polaris mechanics in town (both at same shop)
cat mechanic wasn’t sure which would be better
polaris mechanic said on polaris when they went with an aluminum gear, they were snapping. said steel chain and aluminum gear was not a good combo.

i went with the steel

R u guys using the diamond drive fluid for the change? That's what my dealer sold me. Think close to 300 on mine, fluid and bottom gear looked nasty, but I'm not to concerned. We'll see what happens over time.

Was told that anything over stock hp and its gotta come out and use steel.
Big Bore and Turbos need the steel gear.

The aluminum sprocket will cause the chain to fail and the chain failure might cause the chain tensioner to fail and the chain coming off might cause the chaincase to have a big failure and that big failure might cause a failure to return to the truck for the rider, which just might cause a failure in the rider to maintain composure.

It's all theoretical really.

So will the dealer give me steel gears under my warranty? My right hand warmer quit working also, 240 miles on her as of today, 2014 m8.
