Hey guys,
I've been running my gear down kit from Kurt Polaris for about 400-500 miles (2.41 ratio).
I had MDS weight last year with their recommended 110-290 primary spring.
With the gear down kit, i ordered also the clutch kit. (primary spring, delrin washer, secondary spring and helix).
I kept my MDS weight and put Kurt Polaris clutch kit with the gear down. One thing i noticed was the high engagement... 4700-4800 rpm and you could sometimes hear and feel a "knock" because it was engaging hard.
I mostly ride trees at 3000' and i'm 200 pounds.
I then called Kurt and he told me to try some Polaris 10 series weight and that would help lower the engagement. That's what i did and now it engage at 4150. But i can feel that the 10 series weight doesn't have the same low end punch but it might be only a "feeling".
With both set of weight the max RPM in the powder is good : (8200-8300) with MDS and (8150-8200) with Polaris weight. On the trail the MDS were hitting 8450 and the Polaris 8300.
Is there a "target" rpm for engagement or it's just personal preference? Anyone else have some experience with MDS weight and gear down kit's on their Pro? Should i keep the MDS weight but use their 110-290 primary and keep the secondary spring & helix of Kurt kit ?
