2012 ktm 350 sx-f for snow , need opinion

hello , i can have a good deal for 2012 350 sx-f whit only 28 hours on it . the bike seam very clean and is only 3000 $ Canadian . i know it does not have 450 power but can it be a good snowbike . ktm 450 here hare 6000 to 8000 $ use and some not nice at all . i did not run those 350 , only running 500 exc engine that hare big torqueux low rpm motor . i had 2 different 500 ktm in the past .

I rode a demo ktm 350 with the new riot last spring, and was both impressed and disappointed. In the gradual slopes and tight side hills the 350 was very responsive and had a very fun power curve, rev to the moon and really only hang out in 2-3 gear and go as fast as you need to. Getting into open terrain it was disappointing because it really couldn’t hold high gear because it lacked in torque that a 450 would have. This is noticed going from my 2017 Wr 450 and the same year 137 Timbersled, mine just pulled harder and climbed better, even though the riot is probably a better rolling and lighter tracked kit. This was also late spring with heavy packed snow keep in mind.
I think it would all depend on preference and how you ride. If all you do is play in small terrain the 350 would probably be fine, but for big mountain riding I personally would prefer a 450. Not to mention maintenance intervals.
The 350 would be a better all around bike for trail/track riding if you put wheels on in the summer months

Something else to remember is that if I remember correctly is that the 12's had more issues reliability wise than the new ones.

I‘d say the 350 is a great choice for a snowmoto. The only time I’d think you’d need more power is when the conditions aren’t that good for snowmotoing anyways. That or when you get caught in too high of gear. I would rather have a little over-rev capability than a bit more low end. The only problem with my 2012 KTM was the plastic breather fitting coming out the top of the engine was cracked. Go for it

ok your talking about the breater on top of the valve cover ?

Yes, mine was broken when I bought the bike used. Never broke again.

I’d say that if you were going to go with a 350, having the close-ratio trans would be the best option, so that SX is a good choice. There are lots of kits out there on 350s.

The 450 SX bike is far best however the 350 sx is far better than the 500,s which are low revving motors and dont have any over rev ,they just have grunt , RPM,s are what build track speed , My 500 build is annoying to ride as it hits rev limiter all day long ,The dyno tech shows (At same facility) the 450 sx at 52.4 hp at the wheels with 10,100 rpm, The 500 is 41 hp at the wheels with 7800 rpm.The race motors simply rule. The 500 is great for beginner or non aggressive riders who wish to pick through the trees and dont want to hold it wide open.. I have all these bikes and is non biased opinion .Torque was 30 ft lbs on the 500 and 33 ft lb on the 450. So many opinions which lean to the bike the reviewer currently owns .Lol

Ok i just found FC 450 husky 2014 for 3000 canadian $ . I will go have a look at it first . 70 hours on it . Maybe will go 450 instead off 350 .i know 450 hare a beast to ride in the sumer Time , i prefer 350 in wood riding sumer Time but 450 as snowbike will be Nice

Where in Canada are you? I'm going to assume from the posts you are from Quebec?
If so the 350 will be much better for you. The 350 will be much more nimble in tight trees and you don't need the 450 power with the lack of big mountains and deep snow.

Alittle late on this post but i have a 2012 KTM 350 SXF with a 2019 Timbersled ST Raw 120 kit. which i have installed a Big bore to 365cc and i would say it does me well. I also was looking for a bike that works year round, so far im happy with the 350 !
