2012 800 e-tec lanyard problem - won't start

2012 summit 800 e-tec with less than 300 miles. It would stop randomly on the rides and then when you went to hit the electric start there was no response. I though it was the battery, but it turns out it's the lanyard "key". If you move the lanyard on the post just right it will start right up, but as soon as you let it go it dies again and you have to find the "sweet spot" again for it to start. However with out pressure on the key it will die. Do I just need a simple key re-program, or is it something more serious?

new key time. there is a little metal piece on the inside that can wear out/fatigue. I have 2 back up keys a carry one with me while riding just for that reason.

Update:
It turned out it was the DESS post. I purchased a new one from the dealer for $60. It took about 10 minutes for me to install and it works perfectly.
