2011-2012 cylinder differences.

Hey guys, I thought I had some 2012 cylinders laying around for the 800 CFI's and actually turns out I have 2 sets of 2011's (still think I have a 12 somewhere). Have a friend and another person wanting a 2012 cylinder and I was wondering if anyone could tell me the differences. I have searched and didn't find anything except the injectors were different, but can't find any info if a 2011 could be run on the 12's. The cases are the same part number. One thing I read was the 11's didn't run the green gasket/oring on the injector but 2 standard orings. If I remember correctly 2012 Polaris detuned it by lowering the exhaust port by 1mm.

Thanks in advance.

11 and 12 will fit in cases the same BUT 2011 use larger diameter DEKA four hole injectors. You can install 2012-15 injectors in 2011 cylinders, but you must use the 2012-15 orings. There are three distinct orings per injector green, brown, black in that order from tip to rail. The injector will fit slightly deeper in cylinder but I have run that setup on a couple Indy specialties TMX motors for a couple years/ 3-4 thousand miles with no issues.

I ran the 11 cylinder in a 14 for a while...just used the stock o rings on the 14 injectors.
I think there are some changes to the cylinder skirts from the 11 to 12.

I'm referring to the 3022205 2011 cylinder and the '352 2012.

Did you do something to support the 2011 cylinder skirt since it would have been floating inside the larger cylinder openings in the 2014 cases?

mtncat: Yeah my personal preference is 2011-12 cases bored to a very, very tight fit to accept the 2013+ for more skirt support. I actually have 2 complete engines I am selling fully rebuilt with this setup (2012 cases, 3022449 cylinders, if anyone knows anyone, haha).

Thanks Murph, I did read that somewhere and yesterday I finally pulled out the sled parts and took a look. Hole is considerably bigger on the 2011's.

Roni87: Like Murph mentioned I am surprised your engine lasted through that. I had a buddy that did the same last year and destroyed his engine. If those cylinders are around I would check the skirt of cracking. Not criticizing we all do things in a pinch at times, I just wouldn't recommend that to anyone.

I think the big question has been answered about the injector ports. But does anyone know if they lowered the exhaust port in 11 or 12. Again I can't find a 12 here, even though I am pretty sure I have one, to measure against the 11's I have. I though it was the 2012's that lowered. I have personally raised the port back up 1mm on my stock 2015 engine I now keep as a spare. I also experimented with a 1mm spacer (gaskets and spacer equals 1mm) and a shaved head a bit but never took enough time as the season ended. This was something Dynotech was doing on the with one of their customers.

Anyway I have gone on too long. If anyone knows the exhaust port question that would be great, I know I should of written it down when I had the chance, but as usual I didn't . Thanks guys.

Bob-- port height question reach out to Dan at Indy Specialties or TRS here on Snowest. My guess is they both know the answer.

Regarding 2011 cylinders in a 2013-15 case, I wonder if using an SPI fix kit spacer for a 2011 would support the skirt enough. Those spacers look like they are .250" . Case bolt holes are the same. Then just run the AC 800 piston. Hmmm...

It would give it some support, I've got some of Sno-X's spacers here and they are very tight if you order them for the correct year. Had some folks tell me SPI's aren't always a consistent .250 thick, but no experience. Some companies that do the fixit use one spacer for all so they offer no support for the earlier models. So if someone did use one it would help IMO, granted using correct spacer or using a smaller diameter spacer and machining it to fit as tight around the skirt.

I have installed numerous AC800 pistons with the Sno-X spacers. Haven't had one complaint.

SPI is 11-12 specific, 13-15 specific that's one of the reasons I like their kit for customer sleds

The MTNTK kits are also shim specific to the corresponding cylinder skirt thickness. 2008-2009, 2010-2012, 2013-2015.

Kit's are the same for 2010 CFI-4's and 2011-2012 CFI-2's.

As for the cylinder's exhaust port height question, I was under the impression the '11-'12 were the same and that the 1mm port height change was actually when Polaris went from the 2010 CFI-4 injector Dragon to the 2011 CFI-2 injector Pro....

Dan would know for sure...

If we are running the 1/4 inch spacer for fix it kit, does it still require machining, and if so, how much?
