I have a friend that has this sled and we are thinking he should be running around 8100rpm he is running 7500rpm all stock, all new springs in clutches tightened the secondary all the way and can just hit 7800rpm 75g weights at 1200ft and 65g at 10000 ft 170lb rider. We were wondering if it could be a stater issue?
haven't got to try it much no snow
Thanks

peak rpm is 7950 on the M7. How many miles are on the sled? Secondary clutch could be worn out if it has higher miles.

I have defiantly seen it many times were you are looking every where bc you've lost some top end rpm and top end power and it ended up being the stator. Cant test it either bc it seems to just be weak at peek rev's.
Expensive "shot in the dark" !!
if you have checked everything else,,,,,,,
clutches/rollers/ secondary
reeds
fuel pressure/ while testing, riding

and 7850rpm with stock pipe, found it wanted 7700 with a DD Y pipe. this was all at 1500 ft

Low miles I would say less than 3000 but I am thinking around 2000.

That's plenty of miles for both clutches to possibly be shot if theyve never been replaced, like mentioned id start there. The secondary bushings get loose and can cause binding, the primary's tend to either eat rollers or crack spiders.

Make sure that the power valves are clean and adjusted correctly along with the other stuff that's been mentioned. If they are out of adjustment or not operating correctly it will make a huge difference. Oh and 7850 works best.

The guy that owns the sled has the number of the stater guy I will get it. We took his off and found oil residue coming from the crank seal I'm thinking at this point we should just replace the crank seal or at least pressure check the case what do you guys think?

I've lost a couple hundred rpm on the top end with my M7 before and couldn't get it back by adjusting the clutches. The belt had enough miles on it that it was just shot. Put on a new belt and no more problems. How many are on his belt? As for the secondary, you need to check the wear on the large main bushing that the sheave slides on, not just the rollers.
