Is there a reason to replace the spring cup? I usually just replace the bushing when needed but I've read where guys say the cup wears out

If you have the bushing and the Loctite 609: Replacing the bushing and not the whole cup is OK as long as the old bushing did not wear through into the cup casting.

Back when the cup was $80 we did this often. Now that the cup w/bushing is like $34 not as much.

Too much chance of the bushing coming out when replaced, then it costs a lot more $$.
By the time this bushing is worn, its likely time for the other wear parts and Doo has a Maint kit with everything for $119. About 1/3 the cost of what the parts are seperatly.
