Right now it is at a 17 17 ... I was going to try a 16 18 anyone try this.. I find that first gear is almost unusable and overpowers and spins the track without gripping the snow... So I am trying to move my 1st gear to a "1.5" first gear I can almost climb anything on 2nd..

I hear ya but alot of the time whether or not i make a route depends on how long i can hold 3rd before i have to shift down to second. Speed floats the bike. Many climbs or routes i would never have made if i had to start in second.
I'm not trying to dissuade you because many times i have wanted taller gearing. Let us know how it works!

I think I am looking at extending the power band of the gear of that makes sense? I also find when I am at speed in 2nd if I am following a 450 they are in 3rd but we are moving at the same speed...

Hopefully this wave moving through right now dumps a little more than predicted. We had some crazy lightning and hail here in cottonwood heights. My two year old was stoked!

When you say 17 17 are you referring to the jackshaft? I'm running 14 16 and 17 20 in the chaincase. I've been considering trying 15 16 on the main drive, I'm pretty sure the 500 will pull it.

I'm running 13/16 and 17/20 (1.45 reduction). I went to the 16 mainly to get a little slack in the chain since I didn't like it being taught. Now that my chain is getting looser I may try 14/16 and 17/20 to get a 1.34 reduction ratio which is much closer to those running the 17/17 on the secondary reduction.

I'm definitely curious to see what you guys are pulling though.

I just switched to 14-16 w 17-20. Made a nice improvement from 13 counter sprocket. Barely fit.. First gear is now occasionally useable. I could go higher. Power is still not an issue kx5 mild port and smarty tunnel cooled
