How about a YZF-R1 crossplane engine putting out 160 hp vs 60 hp for the YZ450F.

Heh, the RX1 wasn't really what I meant. 2 YZ450f siamesed together if done like Phazer would be around 150hp and MUCH lighter than the R1 engine could ever be. And as that the R&D costs are so high it would make sense to take a tried and true design and port it over to the sleds, kinda like the Phazer 500 (2 YZ250 engines siamesed). Very successful engine just too small. Wouldn't take much imagination in seeing this done to the new Mountain Max...IMO

But then again we are all just guessing eh?

At the time of the Phazer's release in 07 I asked one of the test guys why not bolt 2 450 motors together. Yamaha said they tried that and it vibrated way to much, but that was also in 07.

That was all marketing, the Phazer motor is actually a 2 cylinder RX-1 ton motor. That obviously didn't sound very exciting or light weight so they went with the 250f story.

Where on earth did you get that idea?? Take a look at the parts below and see if in your wildest dreams you can repeat that statement. First Phazer 500 vs RX1. not even close huh?

Now YZ250F Head,

LOOKS JUST LIKE the Phazer head only half of it?

I have rebuilt RX1 engines before and I can tell you nothing is close to the same between Phazer and RX1.

I love reading all these questimates of where the motor came from, it's entertaining.

And If you believe 90% of anything akrider says I can sell ice to Eskimos.

a yz450f motor produces about a solid 50hp and maybe 55hp if lucky. so put 2 together i'd call for 100-110 hp. certainly not more than 120hp at best

But a 110hp N/A motor could be turned into 160+ pretty easy with factory boost, which has been about 3 years in the making if you believe the rumor mill.

yes it could. which is true. If it might weigh close to a modern 800 or a bit more. push 170 some odd hp at any elevation that'd be cool

BUT imo its kind of hard to say. the Yz450F has such a big bore. and stroke that it gets a lot of wear and pressure against the side wall,

But when i look at that a/c 1100t if they could do it like that then then 2 450f's together would do it even better or more reliably. because Hands down yamaha makes a better 4 stroke motor imo

So it would be very interesting to see none the less! :face-icon-small-win

The existing 4 cylinder R1 crossplane engine appears crank rated at 180 peak hp and much heavier than the genesis engine. Maybe the smaller, yet unreleased 3 cylinder x-plane version will make it into ride testing in 2014.

i dont believe they will come out with a new 100% Yamaha sled. I think Yamaha and ArticCat will come out with do the same that they did this year. I think the next year sled will be the Viper in 153" with the same engine. And they will release a new sled that will reach out to the youngsters a new type of Phazer with a light weight engine.

Maybe, but Yamaha released a press release saying a new engine every year for the next five years and the Mountain Max is next.

I hope the new mountain sled does have a more cat-like design. The excessive rider and weight forward design of the mtx is a liability. Funny that most of Yamahas dirt bikes emphasize their mass-centered design for better handling on corners and rough tracks. The new mtx needs more of that and more hp. Narrower stock body and skis would help too.

Well the new 3 cylinder x-plane engine is now released. Anchorage Yamaha has a brand new cycle on the floor with the motor, FZ9. I was told it produces 120hp. Sounds nice but not enough power there for the new mtx machine. The new engine must still be under wraps.
