Advice needed for putting a 155 track under my 04 edge chassis

Looking for any help I can get on what it takes to put a series 5 155 track under my 04 800 edge chassis.

Basically I need to know where to get the 2.86 drivers that will fit the stock drive shaft on my edge chassis and if I can just do a setback on my 151 rails to make it work.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Series 5 in Edge

Drop n roll - lots of fun

U-cooler to optimize clearance

Use ski door anti ratchets, as they are much cheaper than avids

Would you happen to have a part number for those drivers? I am having a hard time finding drivers for the small driveshaft. All the drivers I am finding are for the large extruded shafts.

I've switched out several tracks on edges. In my opinion the series 5 tracks are not anywhere as good as the series 4 2.4 tracks are. Find a 151 series 4 2.4, do a drop on the drive shaft and stuff it under there and it will be a goer like you won't believe. I've done that on 3 edge RMKs now and they flat out go in the deep snow.

I have a series 4 2" 151 under it right now, I can't justify the expense and work for just height.

Will I see a big improvement with the 155 2.4 over the 151 2.0? enough to justify the expense of the track and the work involved to change it?

I dont want to go to a 159 because it feels too long to me when I am working the tight spots in the trees, which is were I prefer to be.

As far as the drop and roll, we have put the series 4 159 2.4 under 2 different edge chassis with no problems, yes it's a tight fit but it works.

Thanks for the part number goinvertical

Keep the ideas coming guys.:D

sled_guy is right, the series 5 behind a good running 800 will suck, bad. I would go for a 156 camo extreme 2.5 paddle. It uses a 3.0 pitch. Drivers are easy to find and the track will cost you less than buying a series 5 from the dealer.

So your saying that it's a waste of time and money to go to the 155?

Whats wrong with the series 5 tracks?

That 2.5 would be nice, but I doubt I would get away with stuffing it under there without a drop and roll. Has anyone stuffed a 2.5 under an edge chassis without any mods done, drop and roll, different coolers, etc?

Thats why I was interested in a 2.4 because I know it will fit for sure without a drop and roll or any other changes.

A good used series 5 155" can be had for about $300 or so.

Keep em coming:D

I don't think there is enough paddle width on the series 5 and the paddles are to soft, they fold over badly with much horsepower thrown at them, no forward bite. The 5.1 might be better, not sure, never ridden one. I don't think you can do a 2.5 without a drop and roll, but it's an awesome track!

Nice explanation Bigfoot. Kind of looking like its either drop and roll and get a 2.5 track, or just get a 151 2.4 and call it good.

I really don't want to do a drop and roll.

The 2.82 pitch tracks, like the 155, have fewer paddles on the snow at any given time. A 151 2.52 pitch track like your current track is has 60 cross bars for paddles to mount to. The 155 2.82 pitch track has 56 cross bars even though it is 4" longer. An even more glaring comparision is a 156 2.52 pitch track that has 62 cross shafts. So 2 tracks (155 and 156) that are nearly identical in length have a difference of 6 cross shafts to mount paddles to... 156 has the potential to have 11% more paddle on the snow at any given time.

You have to come up with a really great paddle design to overcome 11% fewer paddles. And the weight savings doesn't do it. That's why the OEMs have gone to 3.0 or 2.82 pitch tracks, so they can make the tracks lighter.

But with lighter tracks comes fewer paddles and fewer paddles don't make you go better. That makes the stuff bigfoot is talking about with soft paddles even worse because now you have 11% less paddle taking the same power being fed it... something is going to give.

And no, the 5.1 track is not much better. Yes, it is better that a 5 series, but still no where near as good as the series 4 2.4 was/is.

I just put a 155 x 2.5 on my wife’s 2005 Edge 600 RMK. Some people like that track, others don’t. It is softer, but seems to work well in deep powder. Regardless I bought the track new for $100 from a friend and she wanted more track. So it was a good deal. I will have to see where we got the drivers. Went to 7 tooth anit ratchet drivers, anit stab kit, and a big wheel kit. The skid is moved back slightly.
