so im looking at jetting specs for 02 and 03 and later. the jetting specs show leaner jets for the 03 later, why is this? i can only imagine its because the needle differences? its it good to go to the later needle?

sooo is the 02 or the 03 needle better? im using a holtzman ATACC slp single pipe, cheater head, slp airbox, vf3 reads
5-10,000ft. fuel economy is nice but performance and reliability is most important
I like the 02 needle.
I run sealevel, ported, slp head, slp perf. single.
I run 540 mains.
WOW! You can drop those mains alot. I ran 410's on my '02 with the same mods down to 2500ft.....figure 1 jet size for every 2000ft and/or 20*F, you should be more than safe with 450's and needle in the middle. JMHO-
I believe that the '02 needle, when in stock position, (middle clip?) at WOT can't flow more than what a 490 main jet can flow. The needle is too fat, or physically big, that it restricts flow.
If'n you throw 490's in a '02 motor then run it WFO on EGT's, get your readings, then pop in 540's and do the same, same EGT readings.
