Do they need vents? Yes
My wife also runs an M8 - It has the "gill" side vents, flow-rites in the left shock tower, bulls-eyes added to the plenum and guage side of the hood, and also using an SLP "high flow intake", with bulls-eyes feeding that inlet through the hood. I also added cat proof screen to all the factory vents cut in the hood. Runs cooler - no bog. Sorry, don't know how to post pics...slightly computer retarded. My M1K has all of the above + a center hood vent, and using a BDX box with a defector to keep pipe heat away from it.
