Default 600 h o temp gauge does'nt read correctly

I know this has been addressed somewhere but I can not find it . My 600 temp gauge only reads 7 to 11 degrees no matter the riding conditions or how long it runs . Any ideas on what the problem could be? Thanx in advance.

Default temp guage

Is there a way to test sensor before ordering a new one? When I unplug the connector the display reads error.

The resistance of the sensor goes down as the temperature increases up so you could use an ohmmeter to check it. Only test in service manual is for 68F.
Operating Temperature Range -22_F - +248 _F (-30_C -
120_C)
Resistance 2.4 - 2.6KΩ@ 68_F (20_C)
(Measure in stirred water)
