^^^^ What is the ROVCM option?
The electronic roll over valve control module (ROVCM) has 2 primary features.
The standard method of controlling the shut-off valve is to use straight battery voltage. When using battery voltage (approx 12.3 to 12.7 volts) the Roll-Over valve current draw is approx 550 milliamps.
The ROVCM has a variable pulse width modulation or variable voltage output. For example it takes more electrical energy to close the valve then it does to keep it closed. The ROVCM takes advantage of this by commanding a higher voltage output (approx 15.5 to 15.7 volts) to close the valve. Once the valve is closed the ROVCM backs off the power output to approx 8.5 volts, (the valve will stay closed all the way down to 6 volts) at the same time this also reduces the current draw to approx 350 milliamps.
Because the shut-off valve closing strength is increased by approx 140%, it is much more resistant to the oil vapor/moisture sludge build up that can occur in breather hoses over time. The faster/stronger closing power allows the valve to better contain any remaining oil that may stiil be in the breather hose from previous roll-over events. The stronger closing power also provides more consistent valve performance in extreme cold, where everything seems to move just a little bit slower!
Additionally the higher closing voltage allows for greater flexibility in relation to how the valve is mounted. This can come in handy in certain custom applications where it’s a little more difficult to mount the valve with the solenoid end angled upwards.
Also because the valve is effectively 140% stronger, the valve doesn’t require cleaning as often reducing ROV system maintenance!
Depending on battery size and condition, the reduced current draw during the “closed mode” allows the roll-over valve to stay closed for longer periods of time. (if needed)
The lower operating voltage during “closed mode” also reduces the valve solenoid coil operating temperature and helps promote longer valve life. Reduced current draw is also well suited to smaller light weight batteries that have less amp hour ratings.
The other main feature of the ROVCM is the battery voltage monitoring/auto shut down mode. The ROVCM contains a micro-controller that monitors the sleds battery voltage.
There is an internal timer programmed inside the ROVCM. After the ROVCM detects that the ROV system has been on for 2 hours constantly, the ROVCM enters battery voltage monitoring mode. If the sleds battery voltage drops to approx 12.1 volts (lead/acid battery) or 13.2 volts (lithium battery), the ROVCM will automatically shut down the roll-over valve. This helps prevents draining/damaging the battery from leaving the roll-over valve on by mistake. (pulling the tether cord, but forgetting to turn off the key)
