My tunnel is cracked on both sides right behind the running boards. My question is can I weld on the sled without harming the stator and other electrical components. Sled is pull start only.

As far as what happened don't know for sure. Stock running boards and they do not connect back to the tunnel on the end, so I am guessing it allows it too flex and cracked the flange that is perpendicular to the ground. Noticed it when installing aftermarket bumper. Warranty assumed that would end in frustration.
Quite curious to see these cracks. X or SP model?
I'd unplug the ecm and the grounds just to be safe. I welded the tunnel on my 07 and immediately had one cylinder burn down. I don't have any evidence that the welding did it, but seemed like too big of a coincidence.

I think the coincidence was that it was an 07.
