I was wondering if your belt to sheave clearance is too tight in the primary if you could just adjust belt deflection on the secondary instead of having to re-shim the spider? If this would work what are the negative effects of this? (reduced performance, clutch heat, etc.)

If you just loosen the belt up in the secondary to make the belt-sheave clearance more then you are effectively starting in a higher gear ratio and you will lose some holeshot power.

Think of this as pinch on the belt not length between clutches, the only fix is to shim the spider, tight is good to tight is really bad.

Yes it does come with shims in it.
