The kmotion was designed because people asked for it (think tmotion or pro motion), It isn't really needed. Saying that, it seems to work well. I don't even know it's there other than easier transition (it does have a quick lockout feature if one doesn't want to use it or wants to compare back and forth). The coupling helps to keep the front end down, preventing wheelies while climbing. I am sure Kevin at kmod can explain it better than I can though.
Coupling is not new, all flatland sleds are coupled skids. Coupled mountain skids were originally designed for turbo mountain sleds to help maintain control of the front end.
