About an inch of new snow over night here at the cabins and snowing lightly right now. The prediction is for some snow now and through the end of the weekend. Reports are coming back of thigh to waist deep snow up high. Snotel sites have settle down to about three feet. Still pretty thin on the valley floor, maybe three to five inches, but enough to unload at the trailheads and get up high. To put it in perspective Blind Bull is at 97% of the thirty year average for this day of the year and willow creek is 95%. We would certainly take more, but it isn't as bad as it looks from driving through the valley. The Box Y opens Saturday. Will report back at the end of this weekend.

There's a group of us from Iowa wanting to come out and ride between Christmas and New Years..... Keeping an eye on this thread for conditions over the next few days. Any info (good or bad) would be much appreciated.

We picked up about 4-6 inches in the valley Saturday morning. Today, Sunday, it started snowing pretty good about an hour ago (2:00 p.m.). The high country has been socked in since yesterday. Appears the west ranges (Salt River) Willow creek, Squaw, etc are getting hit pretty good. Blind Bulls snotel is not showing much in the last few days. Wind could be affecting it. My renters rode Willow yesterday and claimed that there was about two feet of new snow from this last storm.

It is hard to tell exactly how much has fallen by the snotel sites. The first two days of the storm was very dry fluff and the last days were wetter snow on top of the dry powder. The valley picked up another 1-2 inches yesterday. I have had reports from renters that willow has 2 plus feet of new. Snow in general from rib to chest deep in places. Local ski resorts are reporting in the last 4 days (storm total) Jackson Hole 31" and Targhee 24". Blind Bull Snotel is now 43", Sring Creek ) Afton, 42" and Willow Creek 46". In general riding should be great up high. Valley floor is still a little thin but enough to get around.

Rockin' M Ranch Snow Report
This last five days has been a great storm to bridge the low and high country. The first part of the storm gave us about 12" in the Valley over a couple of days. Yesterdays storm came in a little warmer than predicted and left the valley with a rain snow mix settling a lot of the new valley snow, but it put some good moisture and base into the lower and mid elevations.
On average most reports are about 2 feet of new snow up high over the last five days. Avalanche danger is high. Below I have pasted the latest reports along with recent snotel depths.

"Very dangerous avalanche conditions exists and an avalanche warning remains in effect. Over two feet of new snow with about 2.5 inches of moisture has fallen since Thursday. Winds gusted to 100 miles per hour overnight.. Last night the Wyoming Department of Transportation used a GazEx unit to trigger a very large slab avalanche in Glory Bowl that ran across the highway on Teton Pass. Todays avalanches are expected to be significantly larger and run farther then those that occurred during the previous two days. With continued snowfall and strong winds in the forecast travel in avalanche terrain is not recommended."

Last five days 12/8 to present 12/12
Targhee Resort 27" new snow
Blind Bull 42" now 60"
Afton (Spring Creek) 41" now 60"
Willow Creek 39" now 56"

Forecast is for light snow until tomorrow.
Snowing lightly here at the Rockin' M Cabins.

Continues to snow lightly in the Valley. Appears to be still pounding the mountains. Prediction is to continue until tomorrow. One of my renters has ridden the South end the last two days. He claims there is easily 3 + feet of new snow. The snotel site reflects that. It went from 40" five days ago to 60" yesterday to 70" today. Willow creek and Blind Bull are both over 60".

Rockin' M Ranch Snow Report Alpine Wyoming
I've received many phone calls lately asking about the snow conditions. It has been dry and sunny since the last big storm about 8 days ago. Temps have started cold in the morning (around 0) and have warmed up some days to 30-34. Reports are that most open areas have based up pretty well, some soft snow can still be found in the shady trees.
To summarize this season and put it in perspective:
We are currently at 100-112% of the average for this day of the year. I believe this is either based on the 30 year average or as long as they have been recording. This is as follows Blind Bull 112% (54"), Willow Creek 102% (52"), Salt River Summit 103 %. Most of last year we spent between 85% and 95%. The valley storms have been warm this entire season. There is plenty of snow to get around the valley and the trail is groomed from McCoy through the town of Alpine. Just not as much snow down low as we would typically have considering we are over 100% up high.
Compared to other riding areas we are looking good. Utah's state wide average is 77%, closer to 83% the further north you get. Island park Idaho is 91%. Northern Idaho ranges from 60% to 89%. Some areas of Colorado and and Montana are 110-120%.

Rockin' M Snow Report Alpine, Wyoming
Here at the cabins it looks like 6-8" is new from this storm. This snow has good moisture content. The Greys River parking lot looked closer to 8-10" this morning. Snotel sites are showing about 11-12" of new snow up top. Targhee and Jackson Hole ski resorts are showing 10" and 11". Forecast is showing a chance of mountain snow from now until the end of the weekend. Local weather is claiming an additional 2-4" in the Valley this afternoon.
