******Yamaha Hand Warmer Fix******

In case you haven't seen this thread. Here is a link. This kit is easy to instal and works great. Works similar (in that the grips actually work and get hot) to the fix for the 06 Apex's when you got the 07 bars and reversed the wiring from series to parallel. This guy has obviously spent some time coming up with this and it works great. Well worth the money. Not much worse than frozen fingers.

I have one of those, best money I've spent on the sled. No more stopping to thaw my hands on the exhaust!
Biggest difference is you can fire your sled up, and have the grips get hot while it's sitting there idling. If my hands start out warm, they stay warm. If they start out cold, (which is what would happen before), they only get colder.

Our Hi Power heaters will take care of the less than stellar Yamy ones. That other kit is nice to allow you to use them when idleing cuz the Yamies don't send and power to the heaters until like 4500 rpm. You can use both the other kit and our heaters.

Thank you,
RSI

I know a fix that was even more simple for other brands, has been filling handle bars with spray foam...has anyone tried this?

I just did it to mine, and will report back on it...

I was riding with Rockmeister this weekend and I saw him install a few of these in the parking lot of the hotel. Those that have this kit love it and recommend it.

Glad you guys like and thanks!

I know I smile when it is seriously cold and my hands are WARM now!

When I designed the Warm Hands Controller, one of my biggest concerns is that it is foolproof.
IE, You cannot goof it up or hurt your sled, no matter what button you push!

Usually the Controller by itself will take care of your cold fingers issue, just wire it in and you have Warm Hands using your existing factory controls and grips.
(Have had 2 out of literally hundreds where it wasn't quite enough yet.)

The TY thread has alot of info on manufacturing tolerances.
If the tolerances of your grips (And/or the rest of your system) fall to the negative, your hands will be cooold.
If you are fortunate and the tolerances ALL fall to the positive, your grips will be warm from the factory.
(That is why some people don't have the cold hands issue, and don't understand what people are complaining about.)

The Warm Hands Controller makes your Warmers WARM regardless of the tolerances of your sled.
(Just how warm they get, does vary with the tolerance of the grip resistance.)
For the vast majority of people they now fall well into the acceptable range! :D (Literally over 99%)

As the RSI guys mentioned, the kit and RSI warmers can be used together.
Recommend the RSI warmers wired to the high setting.
This combination makes the bars seriously hot, without risking serious damage to the electrical system on your sled.
By themselves, just changing the warmers will not make them start out the day/ride warm.
If you wire just the RSI warmers so that they DO start out warm, they can overload the electrical system, resulting in a serious fire risk.
(IE not foolproof)
This is a result of how a person may wire the warmers, NOT the result of how RSI manufactures them!

The electrical system cannot be loaded indefinitely, it will fail if you do so.
There is actually not alot of safety margin left from the factory, so how much it is loaded is very important.

I recommend the RSI warmers as replacements should your factory warmers fail, not only are they much more cost effective, they also have a resistance that will give you more heat without risk to your sled when properly wired.

Have shipped Warm Hands Controllers to many on here, let's hear your experiences guys!

Spray Foam... It helps a little....

Foaming the bars has a very small effect. (Almost negligible.)
The only positive benefit foaming has is cutting down vibration in the bars, and a small thermal benefit by keeping the current air inside the bars from convecting heat away from the grips.
(For the time & possible mess involved, is it worth it?)

A larger benefit (yet still relatively small) can be gained by using a pad that covers the entire bars, thereby insulating the bare bars from the outside air and causing them to act like less of a heatsink draining heat from the grips.

A much larger benefit can be gained by insulating and creating a thermal break between the grip warmers and the bars themselves.
This reduces the heatsink effect of the bars and makes the grips warmer.

Hope this helps! :)

Rockmeister,
Thank you for the nice comments.

We tested the foam in the bars and found no difference on the heat than a bar without the foam.
