Whats it take to turbo an RX1?

So I have in mind a project and I wanna try and put a turbo RX1 in another chassis. But I need to know what all I will have to do to make the engine ready for boost. New pistons? Head shim? Who makes a good turbo kit for the RX1? Does anyone have a motor with turbo ready to drop into a sled?
I know Freaks is super fast but what kind of HP do you normally see out of this motor? Is the carb motor more of a pain than its worth? I mean should I be looking for an apex motor instead? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

I am just starting to jump into putting an RX-1 motor into my RT chassis DOO and throwing a turbo on it.

the carbs are almost designed for boost the way they are built, you just boost reference the two lines that go into it and then i think there is some adjusting on it. they are pretty simple, you can run 10# with no head shim on pump, 12# shimmed and then go up from there with race gas. or whatever you want to do.

8# is about 200hp and 18# is right about 300... so theres some numbers for you to think on. Ill keep updating things on here when i get really into the build, more or less just messing around right now as im almost done college for the semester and cant work on stuff.

apex and rx1 basically have the same engine just diff chassis and alpine has a good set up same with bender racing and mcxpress also but those r my top 3 choices ive done some research cause im planing on putting a turbo on my sled too

since you want to want put an rx1 engine and turbo into a different chassis. i would say the boondocker sidemount kit is your easiest and best bet. Seems like alot of the guys who do this sort of work use the sidemount as it much easier to configure into a new chassis.

are you building a race sled (streight line) or a race/mountain sled. the differences between an apex and rx1 is fuel injection. what else are you putting on the sled nos/ meth. the alpine turbos have been tryed and tested and are some of the fastest sleds around

I am looking to put it into an IQR chassis and make it a mtn sled. With 4 stroke power and my fav chassis I would have the best of both worlds. No meth prob no nos at first. The light weight IQR chassis with 300hp would be a hard sled to beat imho..

running pistons and rods you can make 300 prety safely for a LONG time out of those motors. the fit is the only issue, and dont think it will be all that bad. might be a tad on the nose heavy, but if you made sure to thik when placing all the perifreials to hte motor you could make a darn solid mountain sled that would be pretty light, handle great and climb to your hearts content.

the easy part will be finding engine and choosing turbo kit you will not find one to bolt in but first you need to figure out were the turbo will fit the alpine turbo sits just behind the head so if you have room between engine and tank that would be your best bet nothing to it just start cuttin and weldin measure once cut twice :D

I think a Carb will be easier then a FI system just jet it and go. There are a lot of differences between the apex and the RX1 engine. I like the RX1 engine better seems smoother then the apex and its loud *** harmonics. Probably the lighter crankshaft makeing the engine sound a lot different.

I know the apex motor will fit in the D8 chassis easily. I'm in the process of building the sled right now. Apex motor with custom 4 tube header and side mount style turbo. I'll try to get some pics up if you guys want. It's not that hard really to get these engines into different chassis's just a matter of building mounts for the motor and figuring out header and turbo placement.

please get pics up :D:D:D

You can make a little more power with some custom ground...

cams, you keep the valve overlap down and they really like the turbos. they yield about 280-300 on 12 lbs of boost, and 350 plus at 15lbs. Kind of pricey cause they have to be built, some of the guys on the totally yammie forum have done it. I know several guys have run 15 lbs on stock rods for a couple of years at 300 hp. Either way, like one of the guys said, jet it and ride it like you stole it. John
