What does a big wheel kit do?

Like the title says im just trying to figure out what the point of a big wheel kit is, I understand it should in theory help track life since the track isnt turning so tightly at the back. What else does it help with?

Reduces the bend around the rear of the skid and helps the track free wheel...

I was always told that putting a big wheel kit on a sled, is similar to the way a mountain bike shifts gears. When you are running the bigger diameter wheel, its like shifting to the "high" or "easy" gear on a mountain bike. Lets the drivetrain spool up easier. Someone else might be able to explain it better, that's just my outlook.

It drains your wallet and reduces the amount of track actually on the snow because it's further around the bigger wheel.

Other than that, what the other guys say is absolutely true as well.

Big wheel kits come from the days when mountain sleds came with small rear wheels. Typically now most have 8in stock wheels. I think much over what is now typical stock is just for show in my opinion.

They come in handy if you want to run a 156 on 153 rails or 162 on 159 rails or 153 on 151 rails. anyway, you get the idea. Like stated above, they became popular when sleds came with smaller wheels. It definitely helped then to let the track roll easier.

The first time I witnessed big wheels was on a yamaha mt viper way back in 2000. This guy pulls up on a slight down hill on the road and unloads his sled and if the skis hadn't turned to one side that thing would have rolled down the road..

If they are the chrome ones it makes you look like a gangsta. Especially since it is often the only chrome thing on the entire sled...

Speaking of which, anybody making spinner rear wheels?

You sit there on top of that hill.....you see me climb that nasty chute right beneath you.......you want to ask what I've got under the hood but you just can't take your eyes off those back wheels on my sleds that just keep spinning and spinning in all their beautiful chromed glory.......but the sled has already stopped!

Yeah I need that.

This is a 156X3" track on a 153" with the big wheel kit.
