What belt to run on a M1000 turbo, 046 or 060?

I am just curious to see what belt is better to run on a M1000 Turbo, the 046 or the 060??

I prefer the 046, runs 200 rpm higher and the biggest difference is that when an 060 goes, it tends to explode and that could cause crank damage. With turbo sleds it is important to take special care to break your belts in correctly and cycle them through the day so they don't get too much heat for too long and then grenade.:beer;

Hey Eric,I talked to you the other day on this, whats your thoughts on washing a new belt with soap and water then baking it in the oven before breaking it in properly on the trail, does that help also???

i use hot soapy water and a scotchbrite then air dry ! the purpose of this is to get the release agent from the mold process off ! no need to bake ! been doing this for 20 + yrs ! no issues

I have heard of wire brushing the belt then wiping it off with acetone.

i wouldnt use any chemicals on a belt ! the clutches are poris and will suck in any chemical and release it when hot which may make the belt slip or even breakdown and explode on ya !
just my .02

I didnt see this thread until I made a new one, yet has anyone ran the Carlisle XS 817 in place of the 060? The 046 is cheaper and would work although I am in Michigan and run 95gram Daltons, they are maxed out and if I go to the 046 that will take me too far! Any thoughts? Has anyone tried the Carlise?

That must be on a pump gas set up. I ran an 046 for the first 10 miles at 10 psi and pulled threads on the belt, got the belt, primary and secondary so hot that you couldn't touch them for 10 minutes. Swapped to an 060 and went 50 miles with luke warm belt and clutches. I guess it depends on how much boost and power your set up makes.

Depends mainly on snow conditions on what belt to run from what ive heard.. Ive only run the 060 on mine.. How long everyone gettin under boost

I am running Shain's (Twisted Turbo's) race gas set up at 10 lbs of boost. That is the reason I started this thread because I have put about 200 miles 2 046 belts. The threads seem to just start fraying on the 046 at 100 miles. I am going to double check my cluth alignment and center to center distance. How many miles are you guys putting on a belt for a break in???

I'm running a Twisted 1000 at 11psi and the clutches had belt material on them with the 046 after 10 miles and pulled chords. Switched to the 060 cooled right off and runs hard.

Anyone with a turbo set up having 060 breaking like previously posted,I'm thinking I'll try the 060 this round????

I used these last season and the sled ate them like crack to a crack whore. Carlisle sent me 2 new ones and I will try a little different clutch set-up this season. I sent the remains to them in an envelope to give you an idea of how bad they blew. The last one ripped the clutch cover off and blew it about 50 feet straight up in the air.

I don't think belt heat has as much to do with the belt itself as the clutch friction. The 060 is stickier and grips better, but if you a causing an 046 to get really hot, the 060 will get hot too. Clutch heat is caused by friction, which is belt slippage. If your 046 is slipping, more than likely an 060 will slip as well.

My experience has been 6-15 lbs of boost. Higher boost is harder on belts, but efficiency is efficiency, so calibration, alignment and deflection are the most important.

are there any other kind of belts or maybe harder rubber monts for the motor cause they do twist a bit under boost i think that was my main reason for busting belts

I would try to make the 046 work. The 060 does grenade easily and we know thats very bad. (Plus the cost difference is ridiculous)

I'm going to try one more time to make the 046 work, but it was slipping so bad that I was leaving belt on my outter sheave. The 060 ran cooler and no more belt show on the clutches = no more slipping.

Im gonna try an 46 belt too. the only prob i had with the 060 after two rides at 8-10lbs was the bottom of one cog separated..

Anyone run any other brand belts like polaris or yammy by chance? Just curious cause i believe if u go bigger than the 10.4 sheaves u need a polaris belt??
