viper needs more power what to do????

L
So i just got done riding for the year and I am trying to decide what to do for next year. I am a big Yamaha fan so I am not ready to go to another brand yet. I have an 05 yamaha viper that I extended to a 162 not much don e really just geared down and tripple pipes. I am ready to spend a little money but just done know if its worth it. I have ridden and apex and a nytro and i just really like my viper, so what do i do. I keep thinking Big Bore but dont want to hassle with a bunch of problems. so this is what I want to do what are some of your opinions. let me know what you think.
any help would be great
thanks

Get it race ported, think it gives around 15hp, the max hp I've seen on a 700 viper is 163. You could get a A/M head, w higher comp. bore your carbs to 35.5mm and tune your clutch.

viper

thanks for the suggestions, my buddy was doing some searching and Hauck has a 780 big bore kit on sale right now for $1500 im thinking that may be the way to go.

IMO you can't go wrong with Hauck, I've used their stuff over the years and it comes with a lot of race proven results, bulletproof, worry free, great sound too. for 1500$ you'll be really happy, now just start shaving some pounds here and there and you'll have a beast

I ran with some guys with the Hauk 780 kit. I ended up with the Bender 835 kit. with stock carbs their pipes and CLUTCHING( not theirs). I had a lightweight viper and rode with a friend who bought an Apex from Squamish dealer(knows what he is doing) He was running 10 lbs boost, and I could hole shot him up to 80 mph. That kit rips and on a dyno is putting 180 hp, then I added a 40 shot of go juice Just make sure you seal the pipes and get lots of fresh air to the engine...whole new world.

gotta ask mcx nytro, how's the cooling problems w a 835kit? since they want to get hot stock.

I say leave the motor stock and do lightweight parts first. A stock motor will ALWAYS be more reliable than a mod. Maybe get the head with interchangable domes for high/low elevation. To bad the Viper weighs so much more than a MM or SX chasis..

room for improvements

sky is the limit on what to spend. porting definitely helps. I heard you need to get an opticool gasket to keep your motor from getting to hot. vipers have a heat distrbutionn problem. I wouldlook at clutching, gearing, and dropping weight. you get those right and its a whole new world. lightweight trailing arms, lighter skid. no action skid is a boat anchor. It depends on what you want the sled to do. Highmarking, boondocking, trees. but any or all will help. my 2 cents

viper skid

I found an 05 162 skid from an M7 cat. are these good skids to use. I have seen in other posts that a 153 AC skid is the way to go for a 162 yami
any input on this.

I just read up on a guy that did that skid on his Viper and said he loves it and it makes the sled a whole new machine and feels much much lighter, transfer good. Cat makes some good products. If you can get a skid with the floats I think you will be golden. But i would put the sled on a diet first rip everything off you dont think you need, get some light weight trailing arms, hood, raidus rods, handle bars. I know years ago when I bought the 08 Nytro RTX I drove it one season for warrenty then that summer ripped off everything i can and I managed to drop like 25lbs off the sled and found most of the wieght in the rear skid.

I ran a Cat skid in mine as well. Along with some other light weight stuff, such as trailing arms, etc and if I remember correctly it saved about 25-30 pounds. Most of it was in the rear skid as mentioned above, the stock pro-action skid weights 74 pounds :face-icon-small-sho.
The sled had triple pipes and some mild port work done, which I believe was good for around 160 hp. It ran pretty strong:face-icon-small-hap
Main thing is to get fresh air to the intake, I drilled several holes in the cowl behind the windshield and sealed it off from under the hood. This kept the hot air/steam from entering the motor. You do have to jet up when doing this mod though.
