ultimax belts any good

The Ultimax XS series of belts work great! At least as good as the 1115 belts. (I think the're better) And they have a 1 year warranty.

I blew three of them last year between three different sleds. Clutching is spot on and alignment is dead nuts. All had under 300 miles and were broken in correctly also. They did warranty them, but i destroyed my wire harness and clutch guard on one of the sleds. I have cords coming out of a forth one already too. Two of my buddies blew one each also. I will be selling the five new ones i have to buy 115's which i've never had a problem with. Run them at your own risk.

I haven't had any luck with them either. The compound appears to be a little soft, when heated things get sticky and the clutching falls on its face. the XS series for polaris anyway does the same thing and acts long. They work satisfactory in 20 below zero.

I thought they were bad a@# even though I kept blowing them, switched back to the polaris belt and will never look back again, go with the factory belt and just make sure your clutches are nice and aligned.

The XS is a sticky compound to begin with. They told me durring testing that some Cats lost 600 rpm because the clutches weren't slipping. I found the same thing with the polaris setup. The 1115 seems like it is always slipping and causing clutch heat. And my clutch setup has alot of belt squeeze. Obviously, we all have diff. experiences.
I admit, I did blow one last year. I was relentlessly busting powder all day long :D . I got back on the trail and laid into it to check peak rpm and blew one at about 80mph. Got back to the trailer and checked a few things. Turns out my clutch alignment was a 1/4" off in the wrong direction. The motor mounts had come loose. IMO that belt took way more punishment than it should have. Not only did it have to put up with an out of aligned clutch, but also the nonstop powder riding with not much airflow in the clutch bay.
Belts typically fail from heat. Whether it is improper clutch setup, alignment, or on todays newer sleds just lack of airflow. The more grab your belt has on your clutches the more hp you can transfer to your track.

I put the XS belt on my artic cat. I had to drop 6 grams off each of the three weights to get the rpm back up. This belt is a lot softer than the stock belt I was running, and a lot more sticky. Side by side against the stock belt and proper weights, the XS belt would accelerate right out of the hole faster and carry on to full upshift noticably quicker.
The problem is, you will not notice a cord coming out and therefore give you a little warning about a belt malfunction. This belt grenades!!! And usually in a bad situation. I swore this belt was the "cat's meow", but after being thrown over the front of the sled at wot up a run, I am having second thoughts on running the xs next year. ( They did warranty the belt ).

I had a couple of the xs belts grenade on my 06 900 last winter but i did discover that the torque stop behind the primary was worn out. I didn't get many miles on it after that was replaced to tell if that was a big factor. It was my first season to run the xs but have been running the ultimax 3 on my ultra bb for 3 years and haved loved it. Plus the xs is cheaper in price than the 115

i have 2 yrs on my ultramax 3 in both my ultra and my 03 800 edge, i was wondering if they make one for spare for my d8?

The sure do. It is the XS809. 144-4640U3 is the ultimax 3, but my parts book doesn't list it as a recommendation.
So how did your D8 work out for you last winter? I can't wait to hit some powder again. Summer is just too busy and too long.
Sorry, off topic.

I'm just a flatlander and i ride trails, and mine still blew. I did blow one like you said, i squeezed on it to see my peak rpm and one let go on me at about 80mph. That was on a lake with hardly any load on it. One other one on another sled blew while riding a railroad grade that was groomed flat as a pancake. I just heard it let go while cruising. Needless to say i'm less than impressed with them. Especially after i had to replace my wire harness on my sled when it shredded the harness by the front of the clutch guard. Had no head lights at night since it severed pretty much all the wires.

Yeah, I'm not sure what to think??? They are made to take alot, but when they let loose....look out! Mine bent the footwell vent, destroyed the clutch guard and blew the belly pan off the bulkhead. Once I got the clutches back in order, I haven't had a problem since. I'm hoping thats the last issue I have with them.
I can really notice a difference in performance at least with my clutch setup between the 2 belts. Alot less heat in the clutches on my setup with the XS. This really makes me think the 1115 is slipping. The sled just flat pulls harder as well.
I wish people would give me more feedback when I sell this stuff. I sell a ton of these belts for the newer sled and have only ever had 1 warranty issue? Maybe people just don't bring them to me? And are sending them in.
This is one of the great things about snowest. Although, I have had good luck and like the product. It obviously isn't true for everyone. Gives perspective and allows people to make informative decisions.
Thanks everyone.

Thanks guys for your imput I belive I am going to try one this year Shade tree has them on sale. I had one on my 600 xc back east and it ran great. Is summer over yet.
