So I bought a stock apex last year. Time to Help it along a little bit. What is the first thing I should do?

2.5 by 162 or 174. Gen 2 or 3 Simmons. Skid, exhaust and seat are the easiest places to loose weight. Ride it full pin all day and enjoy

The track will be the biggest improvement you can make.Get a challengwer extreme or a powder claw and it will be like a diffrent sled.

Really only necessary if you plan to boost it down the road. Stock drivers will hold up fine with the stock power plant.

I have run a NA Apex for several seasons. So far I have done Timbersled front and rear suspension (which I would recommend, just make sure the front end fits tight when assembling), Hartman clutching, and CE -162 track. I have also done an Excell under tunnel exhaust and Boss seat. I would recommend doing suspension to save weight and improve traction/weight transfer. The track was a significant improvement over stock, as well. If I were to do exhaust/seat, I would go with a Skinz seat/exhaust combo. I had some problems with the undertunnel exhaust choking in powder until I made shielding for it. The sled works wonders when climbing at a slight angle. It seems to go forever when going up at a slight angle. Straight up, it can slow easy, but at a slight angle it works very well, and can impress/embarrass others.

Track, without a doubt. 162 CE. No need for drivers if your not going boost. My stock drivers have almost 7,000 miles on them. The biggest weight loss is the seat/exhaust. FYI on the exhaust, I have tired several set-ups since 06 and they all would get choked out when the powder is deep. Some worked better with moving the outlet, adding shields etc... but once you got in 3-4 feet of fresh they would bogg down on you. Last year I said screw it and ran the outlet out the side of the tunnle! It worked awesome and it never boggs even on the DEEP days :)

I still like the stock skis the best, tried others and keep coming back to stock.

Rear suspesnsion and drop brackets is the other huge weight loss. I went Fabcraft in the rear and timbersled up front floats all around.

Light weight battery is good for 10lbs off the front.

You can drop 80-90 lbs real easy 90-100 gets harder. lol

Have fun. Eric

I would agree with the CE track and no need for drivers. I have about 4000 miles on my drivers with 10lbs of boost and they are still in good shape. I am running a boss seat with stock exhaust and recently went with Gen 2 skis and a timbersled skid. A cheap upgrade is a handlebar riser which IMO makes the sled feel lighter.

CE and TS skid. The track and the suspension is where it all comes down to.

There is your 1 mod :)

I went with the Challenger Extreme 162 X 16 X 2.5 and Simmons Gen II's Also went with the Outlaw Motorsports clutching and gearing....whole different animal now:plane:

So my riding partner rides an Apex and he finally upgrade the track. I convinced him to get a 15 wide track. Night and day rolls on a dime side hills easier boondocks a whole better. Depending on riding style a 15" wide track may be a little better.

Skid for better ride and handling and weight loss. Skinz seat and exhaust for the other part of the diet

I have a 2010 Timbersled skid for sale. It was installed for less than three hundred miles on girlfriends phazer.

FX Nytro, Apex, and Phazer are all the same kit-- the only difference is the phazer arms are trimmed narrower for the narrow tunnel. If you put two small shims (or even washers) to make up the gap it will fit the Apex tunnel.

The TS skid drops a ton of weight but more importantly it keeps the skid on top of snow versus trenching.

$1100 shipped anywhere in lower 48.

Track and skis -- Slydogs floating me in the front; Camo Challenger Extreme (162x15x2.5) in the rear...

What about the sway bar, hook up? Or un hook?

My Apex MTX didn't come with a sway bar. But if yours has one, by all means remove it if you want that sled to roll at all. They are nice for keeping the sled more level on the trail, but that is it. Plus by removing it you drop about 5 pounds off the front.

Times two on the 15 wide CE track carves way better and has traction .

Simmons gen 2 skis with the sidecut or 8 inch sly dogs powder hounds
if you are looking for a lighter ski are the 2 top floaters that just work.

Do not go with the under tunnel exhaust they bog as was said by others.

Heard good stuff about the skins set up, I have the Mountain mod seat with a bike pipe (home made) 1" 7/8 is the perfect outlet size for best performance on the stock engine.

Timber sled drop brackets are a easy weight loss.

Clutching Hartman works well.
