snapped the limiter straps today.....

Has anyone ever made their own limiter straps? What did you use? Man that sled is hard to control once you break the straps...... almost landed in a tree well........LOL
 
Go to a farm implement dealer. Ask for the belting on the back of a combine that spins and spreads the garbage out on the backend (sorry, I don't know the names of this stuff as I am not a farm kid).LOL I got one belt for $10 and made a bunch of straps. I haven't broke one yet on three sleds.
 
right on thanks. I think I will look around the mill tomorrow and see if I can find something.
 
the hardest part is making the holes and cutting it to size . i found a band saw is the best for cutting and get a punch for making the holes . It works way better than a drill bit
 
Stock yammie ones are the best IMO.....our whole group hasnt broke one and we have alot of miles.....
 
Ya I do have alot of mileage on these stockers. I am just looking for a bandaid to get me through the end of the season. Damn it would be scary if you broke them going up a chute!
 
I broke the one on my timbersled from running it too loose. I swapped it for one off my stock skid and its held up great so far.

That is weird because in my group we broke 5 last season. They need something to hold them straight. Once the bottom slides over the side load just rips them.
 
we run 2 and with the spacers on the shaft they cant slide around anywhere. Have tried the timbersed ones on 2 sleds and all broke on first ride...they are junk!
 
Something that I found to extend the life of limiter straps. Is to lube them where they go around the shafts, with a product called sil-glide (spelling). It allows the straps to pivot on the shaft when the suspension compresses. Instead of bending in one spot and in some cases rub on the track, causing them to wear.
Silglide is a silcone lube/grease, that works well in cold wet conditions. I get mine at NAPA stores.
 
Were your limiter straps let all the way out? Meaning they were set at the longest point? I broke one once, and it seems like it broke at the bolt hole, meaning that the bolt wasn't tight enough to make the friction between the two pieces hold it in place, rather it was the bolt in the hole providing the shear force. It looks like they should have made the straps much longer so as to more easily allow the tightening of the limiter straps.

Does this make sense? It is late...ha ha
 
I have my limiters pulled in about half way to keep the front end down. There is alot of stress there cause I tried to use some silicon rubber 2 layers thick and they just stretch out and are way too long. Guess I will just have to order some.

Just sell it and buy a turbo sled with an M-10 skid already in it lol you know your going to, why wait??? :devil:
 
straps

Used serpentine belt from autos seem to work pretty well. Tough stuff!!! Just need to get the holes drilled the same to keep them even on each side. Was on a stock skid I got from a friend with turbo Nytro. Seemed to hold up for him before he went to an ez ride.

liumiter straps

I used 1'' lifting slings.Cut them to length with a hack saw, burn the freyed ends, while you have your torch out heat up a 1/4'' bolt and burn holes through in the required spots for your adjustment holes..You will not break the straps they are rated for over 6000 lbs.
