Were do you guys get your sled lifts from? Did anybody make theres, or is it not cost effective to make one vs buying one?

I would buy one rather than make one and i would go with one designed for sleds rather than ATV's.

I bought one years ago from sledlift.com that is friggin' awesom but I havent them around for years either on the internet or in the magazines.

Get one with wheels.

Best investment you ever made.

I don't see any reason not to make one. I spent less than $100 and about 3 hours putting this one together. We have done two of them now and both are awesome. You can raise and lower with a hand crank or your drill. Here's the plans, they came off of Totally Yamaha's tech section.

What did you use for a jack is that just a trailer jack? What size is the jack? Is it lift to the same height as the ones you buy?

It's just a trailer jack from Lowes, I bought a Rease Jack. I think it's a 3200 lb, the plans call for a 2500 lb I believe. You can also get a 5000 lb jack if you or your buddies ride Yamahas. The lift height is the same as one you buy and you can adjust it lower if you need it to be, you can add wheels if you want.

I have something very similar. I put wheels on mine, just make sure the wheels don't make the lift too high to slide under the sled. Also, when not in use they make great portable tables, just throw a piece of plywood on top.

instead of the jack, mine is extended out and has a short raised pipe and a boat winch with cable to lift the arms, it a copy of a mar-lift check the web and you can see what i am talkin about, made out of 1 1/2 .081 sq tube with four 1 1/2 casters set low profile to get under the sled, made several for friends and 2 for myself, work awesome

I have a lift very similar to the one in the plans Big Hoe posted. I bought it at Harbor tool or Northern hydraulics. I replaced the screw jack with a air over hyd jack from Harbor tools. It was a direct replacement for the jack that comes with an engine cherry picker. It just has a n air flutter valve to do the jacking. I mounted it easily with a few welds and a muffler clamp and now I have an air operated lift. Works great.

I also have the Mar-Lift, and it is a great lift. If you build your own and do the boat winch set up spend a few more bucks to get the clutched/braked drum so if you let go of the handle the sled doesn't fall. Make sure you put on a locking arm as well to hold the sled in the full upposition. good luck. EW

I added rollers, make sure you keep them narrow enough to pass between skis and still clear the track

Did you guys use a drill press to drill the holes? Any body that plans on doing this i would recomend using a drill press to drill the holes. I had a couple holes i had to ream out a little to get everything lined up and not to bind.

What kind of drill do you use? Would my 18v dewalt 1/2" drive be enough? DId you grind a flat spot on the end of the jack for the drill chuck to grab?

I built mine, and I used an old satilite dish mover that I had lying around. You have to use the dish mover to go up and down.
