Curious for the guys that went extreme in weight reduction on the sidewinder….do you feel it at the end of the day it made a difference?

Hood, belt drive, exhaust etc. What was the riding weight ?

I’m bored waiting for snow.

I have a viper, so it is practically the same thing after boosting it. The answer is Yes and no. Cranking up the power and shifting the weight distribution more rearward made the biggest difference. The hood helps shift the center of mass rearward. Any weigh loss off the nose is a win. Other major improvements in handling come from running slydog 8 inch skis and the bdx shorty spindle 36 inch front end. However, more power is useless if you cannot put it to the snow. I run a 174 kmod that has been modified to resist ski lift more than a standard kmod skid.

That’s a sweet build. Yeah makes sense. I’m currently running a viper also. 190mcx so nothing crazy. 5600miles on it tho. I did run a 174 sidewinder prior but never really messed around with light weight parts.

Ya. You pull the whole drive train and put it in an AXYS 2016+ to lose 80+ pounds ?

Nice. I have seen the sleds in other posts. You do a great job keeping everything clean and simple. At this point, I have done everything...literally. Not much of the sled is yamaha anymore. If it is yamaha, it has been so heavily modified that it is not really recognizable as factory. Easy items to go after are antigravity battery, hood, and seat. If you have a bigger budget, throw in a belt drive, custom oil tank, and a CR rear cooler/running board setup to delete the radiator, moving more weight off the nose. I ordered a new cat ascender light weight seat, and I made a new hood to eliminate more heat. The hood drops 16 pounds, battery drops 10-11 lbs, the seat is probably around 5-8 lbs, belt drive is 11 lbs + weight differential for the new oil tank.

Does that lightweight Ascender seat fit on the stock tank Sidewinder? Just leaves the battery exposed I imagine.

Yes it does. I bought the lightweight ascender seat from BDXtreme for my viper. However, I relocated the battery under the hood since I run an aluminum tank for my mid-mount turbo setup. Also, I switched to a lightweight lithium battery from antigravity batteries. You can see all that in the images posted above. The only issue for me is there is a small gap between the seat front and the plastic around the gas fill neck because the seat is designed for ascender plastics. Thus, it will fit on a sidewinder since the winder runs ascender plastics.

The Elevate kit from iceage is the ticket.
Why? Expand. How does it improve and/or hurt the sled? It should obviously raise the CG relative to the center of pivot and make the sled more sensitive to rider input. But, that is a double edge sword in certain circumstances. However, it should take less leverage to initiate, which is good.

It makes the sled feel so much lighter. There is no negative to it. We have 5 sidewinders in our group all with the elevate kit. I would say it felt like 80lbs was removed from the skis.

It gets the front end out of the snow for less drag as well. We've found that you don't need the rails, just the spindles. We do keep a close eye on our anti stab wheels. The iceage rails tip up more in the front to prevent stabbing, that is the only difference.

How’s the been elevate working ? I picked up a low mile sw and planning on doing the elevate kit. Also possibly a belt drive. Not real excited about losing reverse but would like to see the difference.

Anyone run zbroz high clearance lowers with elevate spindles? They say the arms are similar to stock geo.
