I live about 20 minutes from RFL. Deadman road is probably the easiest way in, but it does tend to blow clear after every storm, leaving some long stretches of gravel. Hit it after a storm and it's a hoot just riding the road. Snow is as dry and powdery as you'll find anywhere in CO. Very cold up there and the snow sets up super slow. Almost to the point of being too deep and fluffy in spots. lol Rather than melt, I think it just dries up! The corn snow in spring can be treacherous. The wind hammers the snow up there, but in the sheltered areas it's OK. Coming in on green-ridge is a good 15 miles of boredom before it opens up. One of my favorite ways back in there is to go up the elkhorn baldy trail south of Bellaire lake. That's a fun run when it's deep! Be careful up there and don't go alone cuz you may not be found til spring. Some old cabins down in nunn creek basin you can camp at...if you don't mind sharing with pack rats! I used to ride that area more, but after a few times your ready to move on. That's a huge area, probably as big big as the snowies, just doesn't have much for open terrain, besides meadows. And while the snow doesn't set up, it doesn't get much more than 5 feet deep either, so boondocking the trees is not so great. Def worth exploring a little if you've never been, though.
