Over sensitive DET sensor

So my question is can there be an issue with the DET sensor itself to cause DET Limp mode.

Here is the case, sled runs fine at altitude, when out in Alpine a few weeks ago riding the trail out of town to the better stuff continually hitting DET mode, PIA! Scratchers were not doing good job of keeping temps down, so I put the new sta-cools on and it was under 130 degrees from there on even added a gallon of race gas and still hitting DET mode. Once started climbing no issues whatsoever?

Stock Indy Dan Long Rod with no mods other than a Bikeman Velocity Muffler, not a loud stinger by any means. My TPS is set correctly in case you are wondering. So what is the fix/problem? Dan thought getting it back to a stock muffler... but come on, I should be able to run a can, what would this thing do at sea level...****!

I remember seeing some traffic about adding fiber washer to sensor, any hair to that, suggestions appreciated.

Thanks
Bill

The can should have nothing to do with it i mostly ride at 1500ft around home and have never seen det on my sled ever. 2012 800 rmk assault 2007miles. I have heard of some people on here with similar issue and a new exhaust sensor fixed the problem thats what i would try.

If the sensor was not torqued properly it could cause that issue as well I heard. I believe 13lbs is the correct torque for it. good luck

You were probably over revving. Try using the ethanol mode while cruising down the trail or at lower elevations. It will detune your sled and allow you to pull less RPM, mine reduces about 150 rpm with it in eth mode.

I would agree with dan, try your stock can to verify thats not the problem. Any can will produce different backpressure at given attitude. If it is to thight, it will not work st sealevel, but as you climb elevation backpressure will decrease, and you might get into the sweet spoot of the can.

Never heard the EGT causing det issues, tell me more.

I checked the torque and it was fine.

Eth or non-eth had same result, det happens in the 6000/7000 rpm range.

Can change to a slp can and see if it is different, don't have stocker

Bill,
I would switch out the can and give it a try, simple test.
Did you torque the sensor to spec. and were the matting surfaces dry and free of oil? Issues here are spelled out in the MRM.
How many gaskets did you use with the spacer? Should be three.
Have you checked your squish?
Tony

a buddy of mine was having issues with his fuel pump causing the det to go off intermittently. replaced the fuel pump and runs good now. just a thought

Forgot about that one. Even the pickups in the tank were giving grief 2011&2012

Tony,
Yes mating surfaces where clean and free of oil, even use a little scotchbrite to clean things up. Torque has been checked. I have not checked squish, it is the way Dan built it, may check over the next week.
What gaskets are you referring to, if it is the cylinder spacer, once again as Dan built it? ?

Thanks
Bill

DET issues

I am having a similar problem on my 2012 pro 800, I am running a boost it turbo @ 6psi, I had a code for the pipe sensor so I changed it and it just kept hitting DET, I was running almost straight av at 6000' When I got home I pulled the head to check for damage and there is none, pistons head and clinder all look in good shape, cleaned exhaust valves. Checked tps, even took to dealer to clear codes with digital wrench, they verified the tps setting and that the pipe sensor was reading, they said their was over 90 det codes from both cylinders. took it out again at 2500' running straight av. it wasn't reving, almost like ecu was pulling timing, I pulled 4g out of Dalton weights and it still sucked, as soon it hit 8000rpm it said DET, so I parked it in the trailer and rode the wifes 600 adventure :P I am going to try a new det sensor and new plugs and try again tomorrow. Any advice would be appreciated

I have heard of some guys taking the det sensor off and running them like that. Check piston wash and plugs to make sure everything is good. Like we did way back when!!! lol

DET problems

Pull your pipe off and look for indications of the pipe rubbing or touching the chassis. If so add a washer underneath the rubber stop bumper. If the pipe contacts the chassis slightly it gives a thump that the det sensor picks up.

I run a 2012 RMK with Silber Turbo and run 6-7 pounds of boost. If i try to run pump gas it will detonate and go into limp mode.Even at lower boost it will not run without detonating. I started running 115 race fuel 60/40 to supreme gas and no problems. Now I just run straight Avgas and it runs and sounds perfect!! The gas pump fuel is crap and mine will absolutely not run on it...Spend the extra $$ and run the good stuff!!
